Data extraction bug

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've experiencing this bug since autocad 2013.

I have blocks with attribute which is link to the CTAB or filename. When I perform a data extraction to extract to excel spreadsheet, the CTAB field would sometime show "model" and the field link to filename would so the incorrect filename. I am not sure if Sheet Set has anything to do with this bug.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

To better understand this issue is it possible to attach a sample file with some of the linked blocks?  I would like to see the blocks, how they are built and then do a data extraction to see if my results vary from yours.

Hi @Anonymous,

I have been looking at the H01 drawing sand so far I am unable to get it to create the errors in the Excel file. I will try your other file and get back to you.  Can you share the extraction template file too?

By the way, in the H01 file where you have pointed to the CTAB fields they are actually linked to the current drawing number which is not the same thing. For instance, if I rename the file, the Filename field updates. If I rename the current tab the "CTAB" field does not update. Is this part of a sheet set? Can you attach that too?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the additional detail. Please tell me where the TAG-PART block is located. I can't seem to find it so I assume it is nested into another block. That might explain the ##### showing up.

The Tag block is located in model space. The name of the block is "TAG PART".

Hi @Anonymous,

That is what I had assumed and was looking for it there. When I start Block Edit, it is not listed. I wanted to see how the block was defined and what the attributes look like but I can't see it. I  know...I must be blind!

John,

Are you able to locate the "TAG-PART" block in model space?

Hi @Anonymous,

I found that the DWG_NO fields in the titleblocks were not linked to the CTAB but to a sheetset property.  When I changed to CTAB and ran the extraction everything appeared to work properly.

If it does not work properly with your sheetset do you want to attach the Sheetset file too? I can examine that and see if it fails on my side. So far I can't get this to break.

The sheet Set properties work perfectly but is not preferred. we would like to use the sheet set title for other purpose where we can rename and would not affect the part Number.

in the attached test.zip i previously uploaded is all the files and discrepancy that data extraction produced. From time to time, the result do come out properly but most of the time it produces the wrong result. As you can see from the 1 of the screen cast it did not produce the right report from data extraction. The test.xls should have a series of H01, H02, H03, H04, H05,H06 parts extracted. However, all the parts in the dwg_no ended up being H01's or ###.

In the Frame.xls file where the TAG-PART block, the FRAME-NO field is link to the file name. The extraction do not correspond to the file name. This is only an issue when extracting multiple files.

The autocad we use is out of the box with no custom setting and no 3rd part apps.

I am attaching a second run on the frame folder and a screencast - in this case the field is linked to the file name but the result the data extraction produces do not match.

Hi @Anonymous,

I watched your latest video a few times and decided to try going into each individual file, running some cleanup (AUDIT, PURGE,-PURGE>Regapps), and then trying the dataextraction on each individual file. I verified that the results looked correct. Then, I ran the extraction on the entire set of frame files and the resulting table looked fine. Can you try to do the same steps?

Hi @Anonymous,

I am glad that it turned out to be so simple. I apologize that it took so many posts to get there.
