Creating clickable commands?

Hi all, 

I recently started a new job and am trying to make finding drawings in model space for specific models easier. So they store all cabinet drawings in the same file, I would like to create a list of the different floor plans in model space and when I click on a floor plan name, a polyline or something I put around each drawing would turn on so I know all of the drawings associated with that floor plan. 

I originally thought hyperlink, but I don't think that will work, then I was thinking if there was a way I could create a layer for each floorplan and a clickable or command in model space to turn that layer on.

So in the attached screen shot is one of our smaller files, I would like to have text entered in the model space (shown as test), when I click on it a polyline box or something similar turns on showing all of the drawings needed for that floorplan. I know I will have to create the polyline box or whatever is needed, but not sure how to link those box's to the floor plan text?

What you're asking for is NOT applicable in AutoCAD . you may find some plugins or add-on or lisp that may serve your issue . But I suggest to try Qselect , Filter or Selectsimilar command may give you a good start .

Have you tried creating Groups?

I think as long as there are no overlaps in the grouped items (items belonging to more than one group) this may suffice. But I don't know if it's possible to include any one item in multiple groups (should that be required).

I'm not sure I would approach your situation that way.... or if I fully understand the need. 

That said you may be able to do something similar using saved views.

Saved custom views are definitely the way to go. I used to use them when I had a long road... with plenty of (rotated) views.

When creating them, make sure to tick off the layer snapshot, that you typically would not want to change.

Then they are accessible from the upper left corner...

It's also possible to create hyperlinks. But it does not make much sense to me, since you need to navigate the list first.

Instead of putting all of them into a single file, why not break it up into smaller, more manageable groups into multiple files?

Setting up groups in your master file, as described by @dmfrazier would be ideal for your requirements.  Objects can be members of more than one group.  Turn group selection on, select the master text option  (which should be the key for that group and only a member of one group), and all of the other objects are selected.  Then copyclip to a project drawing.

To set up groups that share objects, you must start with the group command, select the text key, and then turn off group selection before selecting other objects that may be part of other groups.  To select the group after it is made, make sure group selection is on.

I use dynamic blocks for plans and automated drawing routines for my work.
