Create frame around 3d solid

Hello!

I have created 3d solid. I need to create 30mm (10mm thikness) frame around it. How it can be done? Any offset option?

 Thank you!

Note to forum users:  Drawing is a student version.  Download and use at your own risk.

Here is the process that I would suggest:

  1. Switch to 3d modelling workspace.
  2. Draw a box bigger than the shape and the height you want for the frame (approximately).
  3. Use the interfere command with the box and glazing selected.  Uncheck "delete interference  solid".
  4. Isolate/hide the shield and box.
  5. Switch to the solid tab.
  6. Choose offset face from the solid editing panel.  Choose reasonable offset of 2 to 5 millimeters.  Select all faces since it could be difficult to pick individually.
  7. Assign materials, set lights, and render(optional).

To get the frame for the other edges, you would have to find a way to isolate the edge section and modify.

BTW: It's always best to ask your teacher. If this isn't a student project, you might be violating your user agreement.

Here is a picture showing a top frame created by tracing partially along the edge with a 3dpoly and using the sweep command with the source being a rectangle and the path being the 3dpoly.
