Create a 3D pdf

Hi all,

It still feels like there is no real solution to create/export a 3D pdf file from Autocad. I know there are several plug ins out there, but none seem to be able to do what I want. Which is to export a part of a 3D model (selected elements only) from Autocad to 3DPDF. They all seem to simply convert a file from DWG to 3D pdf (of sorts). Because we work on very large models (several thousand parts), the abiltity to select a small portion and export to 3D pdf would be a massive assistance. Beyond that, embedding that file into a word document would enable us to attach it to say an RFI and help to convey written information. Surely this is something the global market has been asking for for several years?

How come, if we plot 2D pdf's from Autocad, we are still not able to produce 3D pdf's?

Any ideas on how to achieve this (if possible) would be appreciated. Again, the trick is in exporting only selected graphics...

Thanks.

Give a request to AutoCAD ideastation would be a good idea. Unfortunately the ideastation is not available.

At this point one way to create 3d pdf is going for 3rd party program. Google it you may find something that works.

Otherwise, DWF or Autodesk 360 is your 2nd option. Plus, AFAIK, command "stpout" for expoting step files is another option too, only if you have AutoCAD Mechanical.

You need to purchase and use a #D PDF capable driver: Adobe Acrobat (the most expensive variant) and many others do this (Tetra4d, PDF3D and more). Try before you buy. The global market has responded.

Autodesk hasn't figured out how to write or license the technology yet: you've not had to wait for a few years now.

Thank you all for your replies.

DWF is simply not a solution as it requires a viewer. Also, both these solutions (3rd party apps and dwf) seem to assume you want to export the whole model. Licensing aside, surely it can't be that hard for someone to provide an option to only export selected (or displayed) objects?

Haven't looked at Adobe (based on price alone). There are some stand alone viewers that can do this (Bentley view), but the process is cumbersome...
