Crashes for no reason

I decided to try a forum to see if there are any answers to the problems I have with AutoCad.

Basically I was moving a selection from one place on my cad model to another spot in model space. Then it crashed. I have sent in reports every time this fantastic application crashes. No answers, no suggestions other than posting to this forum.

Anyone else have issues moving items around in model space and autocad just crashes for no apparent reason?

I am probably the only one on here that spends $2500 a year and has these issues pop up daily.

Yes I have all the latest drivers, I have 2023 AutoCad installed blah blah blah....

Hi,

I suggest to clean your CAD dwg file by Purge , Audit and Recover commands . Close the drawing then open it again , any changes?

I do that all the time. Purge regularly. Audit I do after purge, then many
times all the junk files appear. So I run purge again. I have even found
that when using “output” it locks up and I have to restart. Recover does
work better than it used to. But I find saving every 5-10 min is a better
option. I also have the auto save set to save every 10 min.

Sorry but purge and audit are standard commands in all my years of using
this software. I basically clean my drawings all the time. And especially
when I know I have to do a major change to a design I save a copy to make
sure that I save a copy so my file doesn’t get corrupted.

Thanks for the idea though.

Did you try turning off hardware acceleration?

Since it doesn’t happen every 5 min hard to tell if changing the hardware acceleration makes any difference.. I have a video card that is on the autodesk list of “certified” hardware. For the record, I have tried with acceleration on, off changes a bunch of settings trying to make acad more responsive. I feel that myself like many other users find work arounds so we can get work done. 35 years of work arounds gets kind of old.

Have you installed the 2023.1.2 Update yet? ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD2023.

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables: if still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, then start a support ticket through your subscription portal as explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options#:~....
