Copy/paste issue with blocks

I'm working on a job and we receive RCP's from architects for our drawings. I came across a light that was on a block called RCP-3. The entire block is made on the same layer. If I sweep across the drawing to grab everything on the layer and paste it into my drawing. Everything gets picked up except that particular block. I can bring it in if I explode it but otherwise doesn't get transferred over. Is there something I can do to fix this other than exploding them? That will get a mess and hard on larger jobs.

Hey @tasherrill

Try copying the block from the block editor then paste on original coordinates. Otherwise you can upload the file for testing if you don't mind.

@tasherrill  hi,

this might be some issues:

1. errors exist in your current  drawings or both. purging the files + audit (or recover) might help.

2. the RCP-3 block is already exist in your current drawing but has a different graphics?

3. also check units in both drawings.

I could do that but I wouldn't be able to do this if I had a bigger project. It would take to much time to do each one. That why I exploded them. I have attached the dwg. Its all the exterior can fixtures around the building.

The block name already existings in your drawing: so rename the block in your drawing (RENAME command) then copy/paste will work just fine.

Don't forget the AutoCAD golden rule: content you already have in your drawing never gets replaced by the same named content from other files with copy/paste or insert. Not without you doing a lot of work first.

Moshe, I did what you said. Units in both are the same and the rest I did and it didn't work when I copied over. I can't purge my own file because we have to have layers in our file even if we don't use them. So I can only purge the rcp. But I was able to paste it into a different file and it would come right on over. I guess there's something in my electrical file that prevents it to show. 😕 But I need to figure it why I cant in this file for future projects and I don't think at liberty to give my electrical file to show.
