CONVERT 3D TO 2D DWG

Hi everyone,

I’m working with an AutoCAD file that contains a 3D component, and I’d like to convert it into a 2D representation. Specifically, I’m looking to generate front, back, and side views of the 3D object in 2D format.

I will upload the original DWG file along with example images to illustrate the kind of output I’m aiming for.

Any guidance or suggestions on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated. If there’s a recommended workflow or tool within AutoCAD that can help with this, I’d love to hear about it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Lidor

Hi,

depending on your 3d model status ( Solid models only ) you can start with:

  • FLATSHOT (Command). >>>>> For your case the result is " There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected."
  • SOLPROF (Command). >>>>> For your case the result is " No solids selected! "
  • VIEWBASE (Command). >>>> For your case the result is " NA "

You have to convert your 3d model (3d faces) to a solid shape to get what you asked for from AutoCAD.

Hi

thank you for the quick response
This module is not solid, I don't understand much about 3D models in AutoCAD and I would like to know and understand more deeply what is mean by a solid module , and how do I know what my module is and can it be converted to a solid module ?

You're Welcome ...

A solid in AutoCAD is a closed 3D object that has volume and mass. Think of it like a real-world object: a cube, sphere, or chair made out of wood/metal.Solids are watertight — there are no gaps or missing surfaces >> Click <<. Because AutoCAD knows the volume, it can:

  • Calculate mass properties (weight, center of gravity).

  • Generate automatic 2D views.

  • Perform Boolean operations (Union, Subtract, Intersect).

To know what your module is made from ... Select one item without any active command then Press Ctrl+1 to get all info about the selected item.

You may start and try to convert to solid by CONVTOSOLID command.

To convert a 3D face to a 3D solid

  1. Enter CONVTOSURFACE on the command line.
  2. Select the face that you want to convert.
  3. Enter THICKEN on the command line.
  4. Select the surface.
  5. Enter a thickness value for the selected surface on the command line.
  6. When prompted, choose whether or not to erase the defining surface.

Unfortunately you don't have a 3DSolid-model, but only a model whose surface is approximated by a lot of triangular faces. That means that you never have e.g a cylinder, but only a polygonal tube.

Attached an example what is the best I can do with such models.

If you need an exact 2D-view of a 3D-model you must rebuild it completely new uing the 3DSolid commands. Only this way you will get 2D views as shown in your first image on the right side.

what do you mean with "that" ? Creating a 3DSolid model or creating the views as I did above?

j.palmeL29YX's drawing is in paper space.  To simply see a single rendered picture of your object, just select a view and use RENDER.
