Continuous crashing in AutoCAD drawing

Hello.   I am a pretty good cad drafter but as far as all of the technical things that have to do with it and a computer....not so much. 

So, I was forwarded a clean drawing that had only line work.    

My task was to draw in some dimensions, text and the typical architectural symbols  ---> pretty simple stuff.

I was also forwarded a secondary drawing that was to be used as an example that had the dimensions, texts and symbols.

I opened the "clean" drawing and opened the "secondary drawing".    I copied the "secondary drawing" and pasted it into the "clean" drawing.    from there, it automatically imported the correct layers and brought in the symbols.

I am not yet set up with blocks and layer management so, i needed to copy.

Now, I am in my "clean" drawing with the "secondary" drawing right next to it so that i can grab symbols and match dimension styles.  All of a sudden, it keeps on crashing with a recover file, crash, recover, crash, recover.

It is obvious to me that the "clean" drawing is now corrupt but i don't know why.

Earlier today i worked on other personal projects which were fine with the odd crash for no reason...and those were started from scratch.

I read about computer updates (which i did), read about outdated video drivers but have no idea what that is.   

Anybody have any thoughts or easy recommendations?

Are you able to post the 2 drawings you have?

Your AutoCAD version is....?
Your Windows version is...?
When was the last time you empties your Windows Log-in Temp folder? Do it now, copy/paste uses that folder.
When was the last time you restarted your PC?

Did your AutoCAD version offer up any warnings when you opened up this first file?

BTW, if you only want to grab blocks and dimstyles (and so much more) from another file explore using ADCENTER instead of copy/paste.

Let's start with updates.  For system components, I need a NFO file from you. Thi is fairly easy to create on your side. Once it is complete, put it in a ZIP file and attach to a post or you can email to me.

If your data needs to be private or confidential, please email it directly to me at [email protected] and please include a link to this thread in your email.

To update your AutoCAD, you can get updates from your account page, AKN Downloads, or if you are on more current product, from your Autodesk Desktop App.

Then, if you can share the drawing file(s), I am happy to take a look to see what might be causing the problem.
