Consolidate hatch patterns from various folders into one one

Recently installed AutoCad 2022. Before importing  all my hatch patterns from old 2006, I did a search for .pat file in My Computer to make sure I put them in the correct folder. Found .pat files in 4 different locations, 3 locations in Autodesk and 1 location in Adobe reader.  Found .pat files in PROGRAM FILES, APPLICATION DATA/LOCAL, APPLICATION DATA/ROAMING. According to Autodesk, the hatch file are located in C:USERS/name/APPDATA/ROAMING/AUTODESK/AUTOCAD 2022/R24.1/ENU/SUPPORT.

Can I consolidate all hatch files in the roaming folder without causing a crash?

It should not crash AutoCAD when you place all the pat files into a single folder (assuming they are all AutoCAD pat files). But instead of putting them in a folder that references the AutoCAD version my recommendation is to create a new folder anywhere that's independent of the AutoCAD folder. You'll just need to add this new folder under Options>Files>Support Files Search Path

Keep your own personal content out and away from Autodesk Folders: you just posted exactly why, 3+ folders so far to find it all is not the best way to protect your content. @paullimapa offered a simple tip to do that, post back if you get stuck.

As @pendean said, keep custom content separate.   Also, just because a file has a .PAT extension, it doesn't mean that it is formatted to be read by Autodesk.  Adobe is no Autodesk. You would need to open at least on file in that folder to determine whether it could be used.  As to the number of folders, it is more convenient to have content you use regularly in one folder but you could have as many folders as you want to keep up with. Put the folder locations in your profile.  Job related hatch patterns should go in each job folder IMO.

Thanks. I'm a mechanical engineer. I'm as afraid of a computer as I am a rattlesnake.  Did as you suggested and bingo......success. And yes... the .pat file in Adobe was an AutoCAD hatch file. How it got there I have no idea. but there was a path script for it.

Thanks again
