compare acad 2007 to acad light 2018

Small one-person part-time landscape architecture business is finally upgrading from acad 2007 to either acad 2018 or acad 2018 light.

Do I need 3D if I've never done it or will the light version serve me for the next 10 years or so?

LT is ok, but thats not the only difference between Acad and LT.
My important benefit of Fullversion is the API, if i need a function which is not available, i can expand my program by 3.part programming

You can not buy a license of 2018, only RENT license.

Thanks Dean, for the terrific resources.

I'm still not sure which version I'll get but now I can do a trial of LT and be better able to judge it. As a sole proprietor, spending less money overall may meet my needs. I am in the final years of my career but may continue to use ACAD beyond retirement.

However, the thought of having a higher grade, more versatile program is tempting!

The time when you could buy a license and ride that version into the ground over a decade or more is effectively over.  A decade from now, it's entirely possible you won't have hardware (let alone the operating system) which will run the 2018 releases, LT or full.

Just so you are aware, in case you missed it: AutoCAD (and LT) are on a rental subscription only these days: in other words you are going to be renting LT2018 (or AutoCAD2018) for as long as you want to use it, the moment you stop paying it stops working (just like anything else you rent/lease of course).

Are you willing to commit an annual fee to Autodesk for the software?
