Collate printing

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi everyone,

An issue happened yesterday while i was publishing a large print job. After it had all spooled to the printer it didnt collate the job. There where some that where landscape adn some that are portrait but if i have them all landscape then it will collate them just fine. Only thing I did notice is that it sent each layout individually to the printer rather than just one file. Has anyone any idea how to resolve this issue?

I usually use the publish command for sending large prints as its faster than selecting each individual one and import a plot layout from a template file

Thanks,

Shane

Hi soconnorYXXAB,

It seems that you are having some anomalous behavior with the publish command.  Please tell me what version of AutoCAD you are using (also if it has service packs) and then please describe your process with a screenshot or two.

Has this failed more than once or was it just the one large print job? If you print portions of the set in smaller batches does it still fail?

I am try to determine if one or more drawings might have something that causes the failure.

Another culprit might be the PC3 file you are using has become damaged. So, we can try doing the same process as another new user or we can try resetting your settings to default and then try to republish your set.

If you want to try one other thing, we can try run the same set and publish to a pdf to wee what kind of results we get.

Please post your answers here on the thread so I can work to resolve your problem.

Hi John,

Appologies for the delay in getting back to you, I am only back in the office today. The version of autocad that im using is 2016 but have had this issue on a previous verion too. I have attached a image that shows the settings for im using, as you can see some are landscape and some are portrait.

It seems to fail on all of them that have a mixture of landscape and portrait. I have tried before with them being just landscape on a different file and that seemed to combined them into one file when spooling at the printer.

I havent tried resetting the PC3 yet so might have a look into trying that, though may need your help.

I have printed this method to PDF and that seems to create one file with each sheet in the correct orientation, it only seems to be on the hard copies.

Thanks

Shane

HI Shane_O_Connor,

Since this works in going to PDF but not to hardcopy (printing directly to printer) there are a couple things I can suggest. If your printers are on your network, please let me know how you print to them. Do you print directly to the IP address of the hardware or do you print to a network queue? If the latter, how are your printers distributes? For instance, are you using Windows Server Print Management?

Aside from those questions, I would try to build a new PC3 file for one of your printers that appears to be having this issue. I would not copy it from other files but start it from scratch. I am happy to assist with this.

Please post your answers on this thread so we can get this thing taken care of for you.

Hi John,

From what I know the printers are on a server, as for what type im not sure cause I dont deal with that side of things. I think they go through an IP address as one shows up while it is spooling.

I think I might just build one from scratch and see how that goes as that might be faster than trying to go through the individual components. Do you mind helping me out with this to make sure its set up right?

Thanks,

Shane

Hi John,

Id rather if you could provide a step by step way up here in order to follow, just incase i have to do it again or if there is anyone else out there who would be having the same issue. Though if you cant then we could try a remote session through teamviewer if you have that?

Thanks,

Shane

Hi @Anonymous,

That is good news!

In summary, the steps we took are as follows:

Created two new PC3 files. One for portrait and one for landscape.

Created a new system printer that is directed to the IP address of the hardware device in lieu of the network queue.

Apparently everything is collating properly yet you still have problems with the orientation of sheets breaking the set. Assigning the proper PC3 to those specific sheets that are rotated might work.

Also in the Publish window, we first select Plotter named in page setup, then select the sheets and override if necessary

As far as the orientation change, I am not sure that there is much that can be done other than to pre-assign a correctly oriented PC3 to the layout prior to Publish.
