Clipping Boundary for elements in the drawing

Hi.

The Xclip command is basically for RefX but I was wondering if there is another command, using a Clipping Boundary to hide the outside of the boundary I mean, elements (circles, polylines,..) in the drawing.

 

For example, MicroStation has the "Clip Volume" and can do this, also for RefX and blocks (cells) in the same routine.

You can also use _XCLIP on block insertions. But not on the model space itself.

There is also a function named _WIPEOUT that draws a blank image covering all what was drawn previously. But you won't be able to make outer. Just an inner. You won't be able to reverse it, as you can do with an xclip.

Non-destructive AutoCAD options:

1)Use a viewport (in a layout) to do the view clipping.

2)Nest objects in a block and clip that block. (Copy/pasteasblock)

3)Save the objects to an external drawing, xattach and clip that.

4)Use a specially drawn, self intersecting polyline and convert it to a wipeout. Think how to connnect the inner and outer frames with segments to and from.

5)Draw the outline and clip each block separately.  Doesn't work with non-block/xref entities.

Destructive AutoCAD option:

1)Draw the outline as a polyline and use xtrim.  Doesn't work with blocks.

Architect, Registered NC, VA, SC, & GA.

You can make a Wipeout with a "hole" in it, with a closed Polyline like this -- the left side shows the concept of it, but actually make its wrap-around ends meet each other as in the right side:

Use the Polyline option in WIPEOUT to turn it into one.

And of course, neither the inside "reveal" area nor the outer perimeter needs to be rectangular -- use any shape you can draw as a Polyline.  You can STRETCH or grip-edit the outer perimeter as far as you need to cover things you want hidden.
