Clip Cubed Items to have Frame Show Up Upon Selection

It seems like I used to be able to have FRAMES turned off (0), yet when I specifically selected an item that was clipped, the frame would show up with selection grips and I would be able to manipulate then how I needed them, then when I deselected the Clip Cubed Object, the Frame would disappear. I don't know if that option was eradicated with newer versions of AutoCAD, but I have tried about every combination of FRAME setting with Object Selection setting and I cannot get AutoCAD to replicate this feature. Thoughts?

FRAMES set to 2 or 3 (not 0) will do what you are describing, look it all up in HELP like here

Respectfully, frames set to 2 or 3 will actively SHOW the frames on the screen ALL THE TIME. There used to be a setting where NO FRAMES were shown on the screen, until the object was ACTIVELY SELECTED. At that point the frame would show up with Selection Points that could be manipulated. When the Object was then DE-SELECTED the frame would disappear. I prefer this setting as I can't stand seeing a bunch of boxes and clip polylines cluttering up my screen.

I think i figured it out. The command is FRAMESELECTION. When set to 1 Hidden Frames can be selected. Although, I will say that it used to be that your crossing selection box used to have to grab a visible part of the object to select it, but now it seems that if you cross any part of the hidden frame it will activate the object. Annoying, but better than turning frames on and off repeatedly.

Got it, your setting somehow drifted away from the recommended default

Since we are on that page in HELP, is your second part about this setting

Here is what I was talking about above. You can see the selection box is crossing the extents of the Clip Cube without actually touching any lines in the clipped Object. I seem to remember this being different before? Is there a setting where the clipped Object would only be selected if a line from that object was touched with the crossing selection tool?  It's infuriating to grab an area only to have selected a clipped object because you crossed an invisible line in space.
