Classic Layer Properties Manager, slow with multiple refreshes. ACAD 2017

I've been running into an issue with the Classic Layer Properties Manager recently in AutoCAD 2017. It frequently becomes very slow by refreshing the layers multiple times when a selection is made within the Manager. The refresh is so slow, I can count each layer as it is displayed, and sometimes it refreshes as many as 5 times for each selection. This is painfully slow, even on drawings with relatively few layers. I mainly seems to happen with drawings that have had pointclouds inserted into them, via cloudWorx

Hi,

May I ask what you mean by "classic layer properties manager"?

Because while this dialog (the classic layer manager) is open you can't select objects in the drawing.

I'm not making selection within the drawing, I'm making selections, changing properties in the Layer manager (ie colour, status, linetype, etc). Below is a screenshot of the Classic Layer Manager

Hi,

which reason do you have to use the old layer manager?

What you can try is to disable system variable SHOWLAYERUSAGE (>>>details<<<) as well as LAYEREVAL (>>>details<<<).

Also please let us know if that happens with a new drawing, based on an original AutoCAD template too.

well, I use it because it is way faster than the new one.

I just installed an quite fast new desktop. i9, 64GB momory, fast flash drive, the layermanager is slower than ever before. I can actually COUNT the selected layers while selecting. I am also 100% sure that back in the days with autocad 2004, it was pretty fast. I am very afraid of what is comming next with each update...

You wrote (and everyone else missed):

That's just the nature of working with pointclouds: there is not a PC fast enough on the planet to help.

BUT... you are using a 4-year old version of AutoCAD too, at this point you probably should be using AutoCAD2020 (works a bit faster with pointclouds) if you want help from Autodesk and most end users around these forums.
