Changing Plot Style of an XREF

Anonymous

Our company has standardized .ctb and .stb plot styles. We have company-wide standards which state the .stb should be used, and in my division, .stb is very much the preferred method. The .ctb style has been widely used in the past but is being phased out.

Another division using primarily Civil3D still prefers the .ctb plot style. We will occasionally need to XREF in each other's drawings to our respective .dwg files.

As many of you may guess, an ongoing debate over a superior plot style is not the best path forward at this point and until a long term solution is reached I am hoping to find some temporary middle ground. Is there a simple way for each division to XREF each other's drawings, manipulate the plot style of the XREF to align with the needs of the division, and move on to the next task? I am open to other ideas as well. I would like to keep things as simple as possible while allowing all divisions to use the standardized plot style which best fits their discipline and software.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting this.

This will really depend on how your company as a whole prefers to display xrefs & the plot styles you currently have in place.

One suggestion is to implement a workflow where you have a assigned layer for Xrefs & a color that both .ctb & .stb files would have indicated to print the same. For example selecting a random color 220 & selecting your lineweight, color preferences etc. as you wish. When attaching the Xref make sure the created Xref layer is current, then "Edit In Place" selecting all placing it on the "Xref Ref-Edit" layer.

Take a look at this video, I created for you.
