Changing Default Web Browser for command <BROWSER> function

Anonymous

Issue: When I enter a web address in the browser command function, AutoCAD is defaulting to Internet Explorer. I would prefer the default browser to be  Google Chrome.

I am running Windows 10 64bit.

I have the student version of AutoCAD 2017, so brand new to the software.

I have my Default browser for Windows 10 set to Chrome.

I have closed the AutoCAD program, set my browser back to IE, then reset to Chrome, then opened AutoCAD and still have IE as the default.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

I just found your post. I apologize for the late response. If you are still experiencing this default browser issue you might check the registry keys described in this article to see if that fixes the problem.

I don't understand what your link is suggesting for the solution to the OP - it's the exact opposite scenario of the help article.

I can't seem to get AutoCAD's BROWSER command to open any browser but IE.

I know there are several solutions using a LISP routine to set your default app, but I'm curious what actually controls ACAD's behavior.

@owen66 IE? curious indeed.
What era AutoCAD and OS are you running?
What is the default browser for your OS? That's what opens here in our office when users try it, ranges from Edge to Chrome to Firefox to ... . Well, I only tested three PCs using R2021-R2022-R2023 all in Win10Pro, no one is using IE for anything anywhere.

You appear to know the 100% for-sure solution.

AutoCAD 2018.1.2

Windows 10 21H2

Maybe the old version of 2018 is the issue, even though it seems from old forum posts (like this one) that the opposite is very doable.

Oh well - chalk one more win for Autodesk and annual upgrades! (or one more LISP routine)

EDIT: ACAD 2023 recognizes the Windows default browser - Edge, Chrome, Brave...
