Does anyone know how to stop the annoying popup below from appearing, it never used to happen when I was using XRefs.

find out who has the drawing open.

This also looks like its in a drop box location. make sure that drop box isn't syncing and locking the file.

It's my file, I have it open. and there is no one else in the office with AutoCAD.

I've been creating schedules for manufacture for years by adding my main DWG file to a new drawing as an XRef then picking the parts that I want and never had this box popup before evening with the dropbox location.

It's just started happening recently.

@cloweRE8TC You may need to restart your PC if WHOHAS command does not better explain who has the file open and you cannot close it: AutoCAD does not edit files that your Operating System reports is open by someone. AKA your OS has the XREF tagged as uneditable/locked/open by someone.

Also check your XLOADCTL system variable setting: most of us prefer a setting of 2.

Thanks

My XLOADCTL is set to 2.

I may have to get in the habit of closing the file that I'm XRefing, which I'll try later and see if that makes a difference.

Are you previewing the file in your file explorer? We have had to disable the file preview in our file explorer because it occasionally locks files. Some times at its worst we have to reboot everything.

Solved it.

To stop this from happening you need to toggle 'add scales to annotative objects when the annotation scale changes' to off.
