Change multiple attribute values for different blocks within Properties window

The software:

Person #1  has AutoCAD 2021 V 47.0.0

Person #2  has AutoCAD 2021 V 47.0.0

The problem:

Person #1 can do something, Person #2 cannot even though they have the same program.

Person #1 can edit the value of an attribute for multiple different blocks (2+) at the same time in the properties window.

Person #2 can edit the value of an attribute for multiple of the SAME blocks (1) at a time in the properties window.

See (3) images attached. Note that Person #2 has a "Block:" callout next to the attribute, I suspect that the solution lies in removing that "Block:" callout..

The question:

Clearly, this is a option or command that can be changed since we have the same program. We want to know, what is that command? How can Person #2 get the same functionality as Person #1?

Said another way: How can Person #2 edit the value of the "array" attribute for multiple and different blocks that have the SAME attribute?

Note, I'm NOT looking for a lisp command, or the GATTE command, or BATTMAN. None of these work for what I'm specifically looking for. Person #1 can clearly do it without any lisp commands or anything special. So something must give person #2 that same functionality. Also note that Person #2 can edit attributes for multiple blocks of the same name, but not multiple blocks with different names.

@patrick.carrollB63JW,

It may be helpful if we could examine the drawings.

Would it be possible for you to provide sample drawings containing these blocks?

Regards,

Jerry

Both users need to be on AutoCAD 2021.1.2 R.163.0.0 before you go much further: get those updates installed and both PCs restarted ASAP.

Your reported failure is due to the second user NOT selecting any blocks with attributes: your screenshots seem to confirm that. If you believe otherwise you'll have to share an actual DWG file nd figure out how to isolate the 5-blocks user #2 cannot edit in PROPERTIES after you confirm user #1 can actually edit those same 5 in PROPERTIES too (from what I can tell from your post, you've not performed that level of testing yet, you just "suspect" whatever that means).

Or selecting any combination of Blocks in which some or most have Attributes, but even only one does not have any, or any combination of Blocks that all have Attributes, but there is no single Attribute tag that all of them share.

You're actually seeing the EXACT problem I'm trying to figure out.

I can assure you with 110% confidence that every block in those images has an attribute and its the same exact attribute too.

Let me explain this better with the key differences in Red below.

Image #1 - User #1 -

  • Can edit the attribute value of multiple different blocks as long as those blocks have the same attribute tag name (as they do in this case).

As you can see in the properties box:

  • Block names: *Varies* (i.e. different blocks are selected)
  • Attributes: Array (can insert value even though there are different blocks selected)

Image #2 - User #2 -

  • Can edit the attribute value of multiple blocks (same named blocks only) as long as those blocks have the same attribute tag name (as they do in this case).

As you can see in the properties box:

  • Block name: 0-GC Purlin
  • Block:0-GC Purlin: Array (can insert value) (why doesnt it say "Attributes" here?)

Image #3 - User #2 -

  • Can edit the attribute value of multiple blocks (same named blocks only) as long as those blocks have the same attribute tag name (as they do in this case).

As you can see in the properties box:

  • Block names: *Varies* (i.e. different blocks are selected)
  • Attributes does NOT pop up here? Why is that? This is my question. They are the same blocks that User #1 can select and edit, but this doesnt pop up for User #2.

Also we have performed that level of testing. We have the same software, #1 can see the same attribute for multiple blocks, #2 cannot as described above. Same file, same blocks, same attributes. The only difference that I see (and what I suspect will lead to the solution) is that user #2 has "Block:" next to the attribute name, while user #1 does not have that (as shown above and in the images).

I do understand this very well, however, all blocks have the same attribute and this is not the cause of the problem I'm encountering i can assure you of that.

@patrick.carrollB63JW Still no DWG in any of your posts: time to share that.
