Center Snap Issue

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello!

My issue is with the center snap option. I have no problem with open circles but when I try to snap to the center of a closed circle (inside diameter=0) I seem to have every option available to me except center. My only current work around is manually typing in "center" or closing all the snap options except center.....not very efficient. Any suggestions?

Thank You!

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you please attach a file showing this? A circle only has one diameter (not an inside and outside) so I am not sure what you are referring to exactly.

My mistake. It's actually a donut with an interior diameter of 0. Thanks John!

Hi @Anonymous,

Ok, that helps!

I drew a donut with an ID=0. I then started the line command and moved it to the donut. At first it appears to snap to a random point in the donut but then if I hover over the center the osnap works.

Perhaps you are not hovering long enough?

I can not get that to work unless I type cen in OR I am super close to the donut. I use this all the time and it has been frustrating. Do you think there may be a variable I could change? Or is there anyway to set a hierarchy to the snap options? Thanks for you help!

Hi @Anonymous,

What version of AutoCAD are you using? I tried this in AutoCAD 2015 with only a few Osnaps enabled. Can you use the Windows Snipping Tool to capture the Osnaps you have configured?

I wonder if you have too many on or if something is turning the center one off.

[I was going to say -- there's no such thing as an "open Circle" in AutoCAD, corresponding to something like an "open" Polyline or Spline or Ellipse, because it would be an Arc instead.  Anyway....]

Osnapping to the CENter of a Donut [whatever its inside diameter] will work only if the Osnap Aperture "hits" an edge of the Polyline width [whether the inside or outside edge in this case], not if you're out over the middle of its width.  Could that be the issue?

Also, if other Osnap modes are on and it may be "seeing" some other object's ENDpoint or something, try cycling through the possibly-applicable modes with the Tab key.

Maybe not the solution but this is the issue. The nature of the donut (pline) vs. a circle. Thanks for the explanation!
