Hello everyone:
I have a serious problem, I nearly finsih my wheel, but it seems that I cannot do the subtraction to the red object from the blue object (as you can see from my attachment). I think it maybe that the blue object is not solid. However, can everyone please help me to solve this problem, how to subtract the red object from the blue object. Then can anyone know how to convert an object from surface to solid.
Best,

Hi,
If your need as attached image follow these simple steps:
- explode your array (red object).
- use Subtract command and select them to subtract from blue object.
Good Luck..

Hello Imadhabash,
it works!!!! Thank you so much!!!! In addition, can you please explain to me why sometime subtraction works only is use XPLODE and sometimes objects can just do the subtract command without using the XPLODE command?

If you ran the LIST or Properties command on the geometry you would see that it returns Array, when you need for it to say Solid.
Explode of an Array one time returns Solids.
When you created the Array - there was an option to have it do as non-associative individual solids rather than a "grouped" array.
Hi @Anonymous,
I am glad that it worked out for you
Please be so kind and mark the post that resolved your problem as a solution. And maybe you want to give some Kudos, too
All readers will appreciate.
Thank you
HI,
i'm so happy that your issue solved as you wish and i'm so glad that you ask me your question.
SO.. we use explode command because to use SUBTRACT, you can create a 3D solid by subtracting one set of existing 3D solids from another , and in your case there was one 3D solid and arrayed item.
for that we explode the arrayed item to get his origin 3D solid specs.
I wish that you get it..
