Can we change the font size of the GD&T symbols?

Hi,

I am using AutoCAD 2016.

In my model, I have GDnT symbol.

I can change the font of the text inside the gdnt symbol. 

I could not find a way to change the style of the symbols used in it. e.g. diameter symbol. (please see attached image) 

I want to make the symbol bold (Please refer to attached jpeg). Is there any way to do it?

Not all fonts (or characters) have variations in the typeface like bold or italics for instance. 

What is the font that is being used?

Somethings you can try is changing the line weight for that text to mimic a bold effect.

The font being used is from shx file "Simplex.shx".

If I use Bold.shx, the text becomes bold, but the symbol does not look bold. (Please see attachment)

My intention is to make the text and the symbol to be bold.

I tried increasing line weight, but it has no effect.

Those symbols aren't in simplex.

I'm not as familiar with the tolerance object. I was able to change the line weight of the box using dimstyle, but not the tolerance symbols.

The symbols (if it is using text to create the tolerance symbol object) are part of the AIGDT font. 

I inserted just the characters and i was able to bold the characters so the font (assuming its a font in the object) is not the issue. The bolding is not that dramatic of an affect. The top row is bolded below.

It looks like there might be the ability to control this in AutoCAD Mechanical by adjusting the feature control frame settings but i don't have access to the software to verify. I am also not sure if its the Tolerance object in vanilla is the same as the feature control frame in Mechanical but they look very similar.

I tried setting the font to AIGDT as you suggested; it makes the text as bold but the symbols are still in regular size (Please see attached screenshot).

The tolerance dialog does not give us a way to set the font for the symbol.

Sorry i didn't mean to suggest that changing the font would address the issue. I was trying to indicate that there are two different text elements in the tolerance object. One we seem to be able to control and the other one does not look like we can control (the elements which use AIGDT) with Vanilla AutoCAD. 

You are correct that the tolerance dialog does not have the ability to change it. What i was trying to indicate was that there might be the ability to change an equivalent annotation item in AutoCAD mechanical. (i don't have access to that program so i cannot verify this) Do you have AutoCAD mechanical?

I also don't have access to AutoCAD Mechanical either; But if tolerance dialog in vanilla AutoCAD don't have certain ability, AutoCAD mechanical would not also have it, I believe.

I apologize for my late response.

I didnt have Mechanical installed so....

At any rate, I did go into the Feature control Frame

Once I found the Style, I went to the Text Stylessettings to see which text style was being used for the symbols.

I set the font to Wingdings and the symbols came in but used the Wingding font.  The only glitch I ran into is that Wingdings only had a Regular Font style so I think if you could find another TTF that contains the symbols and has a Bold or Heavy style, you could get this to work in AutoCAD Mechanical

Just to make sure I understood correctly,

Do you mean to say that none of the fonts or .shx files installed by AutoCAD does not have any font with bold GD&T symbols? 

Please note that I can not (Not allowed to) additionally install or use any other font file except default ones installed by AutoCAD and Microsoft Windows. Have to make do with what is currently available in the AutoCAD installation.

Please suggest the way forward or have we hit the deadend?

If the font in use for the symbols is an SHX font rather than TTF/OTF, tiy can get a bold effect by using a heavier pen weight/color.

I tried with increasing the line weight, but that did not help.

select the tolerance object, and look at the Properties.  Currently the Text Color is set to Yellow -- change that to a color that will use a heavier pen.

If you're not using a CTB file to plot, then it won't work.

This means I have to select some color int the ctb file and assign it a heavier lineweight.

And use that ctb file while plotting.

This method has problems (correct me if I am wrong)

1. Any other element which has same color will use heavier pen. But we are targetting only the gdnt sumbol to be in bold. So we have to use unique color to gdnt. 

2. The color of the gdnt symbol cannot be modified further, else we lose the bold style (In disguise). So the gdnt symbol is stuck forever with that color.

You already mentioned in your last post that using a heavier pen through .ctb file for the plotter is the ONLY way to make the gdnt symbol bold. But this may not the acceptable solution to my problem. 

Hope Autodesk finds a better solution to this.

Yes, a unique color should be assigned for the line weight you desire. You might have other layers or object that can benefit from this same weight.  There are 255 Index colors so picking a unique one shouldn't be difficult.
