Can't put a block on a palette

So I have this problem this morning that is making me want to smash my keyboard.  I made a simple block for a detail tag. It's not even complicated. It is a circle with a attribute consisting of 1 letter inside. Block works fine. I put the block into my dwg block library that I use for my palettes. Try to drag the block to the palette. It says block not found in dwg. All the other blocks that are in the library dwg drag to the palette fine. Yes I saved the drawing. I tried actually making the block in that dwg and still won't put it on palette. How can it say it doesn't exist in the dwg when that is were I dragged it from and made it there?

I started a new drawing. I can copy and paste the block from the dwg that it says the block is not in, into the new drawing. I can put it on the same palette from there and it works fine. It just won't let me do it from my library dwg. I've renamed it, remade it from scratch(in the library drawing or in another and inserted it into the library, purged it, all those things in different order. I just can't figure out why it works for every other block but this one. I've tried everything. It just doesn't make sense.

Edit: I also just tried putting the block on the palette from a new drawing which works. Then inserting the block from the palette into my library drawing which worked. Then deleting the block off the palette and putting it back on the palette from the block I just put in the library dwg from the palette. Nope same error saying block isn't in the dwg.

HI @gotphish001,

I ran (in AutoCAD 2019) AUDIT, PURGE, and -PURGE>Regapps.  Prior to this I could duplicate what you were seeing. After these maintenance steps I had no problem adding the block to a palette.

Let me know if this works on your side.

I tried those steps a few times. No go. I tried deleting the block, running those steps, I even threw in a save and recover, then remade the block, ran audit, purge, -purge>regapps again and then tried to put on the palette. Still won't work for me.

I thought some how the block was messed up even though it's so simple when I noticed this in command line on insert(see image). Don't know why it replacing  a .shx as it's literally just a circle. So I remade it again. Still no luck.

Hi @gotphish001,

Try this attached file. I did an exporttoautocad from 2019 and saved in 2013 file format.

Are the fonts in your block ones that are installed and accessible? It would be nice to eliminate the font substitution to make sure that isn't part of the issue.

I can put your block from your attached drawing on a palette, but when I try to put it into my library dwg it won't go on palette still. I tried copy and pasting it in and putting it on palette then off palette to my drawing. Just won't work.

We only use one font. All the other blocks in my library dwg have the same font and those go on the palette fine.

I can add the block to the palette without editing, no problem 2018.1.2

Please fix the problem with your textstyle mediclinics (Font) and try it again.

I fixed that text style. Still no go. I totally got rid of the block that had the broken text style. nothing.

I Wblocked the entire drawing. Opened that. It let me put the block on the palette. YES finally! Saved as and saved it over top of the dwg that I attached here. That block won't go on palette again. WHAT THE? How can saving the dwg as a different name make any difference?

The file I  did a save as on over top of "block library for pallets" that wasn't letting that block go on the palette, I did a save as on that and just named it the same thing with TEST on the end and saved it in the same folder that the original was in. Now it lets me put the block on the palette with "test" added to the file name. I know it's a simple problem but how does that make any sense at all.

Then just for curiosity I did a save as again and saved it back to the original file name. Now doesn't work again. hahaha Now it's just funny.

I tried closing and reopening all these dwgs at different times, so I thought I'd try restarting autocad. Closed it. Reopened it, it got as far as the outline for the ribbon and said I was missing a dwl file and wouldn't go further. I went to task manager and force closed autocad. Tried starting it again. This time it said I was missing the same file but then got stuck with just the title bar loaded that says "autocad 2017" at the top and it also loaded the big A in the top left and that was it. Let it go 5 minutes. Nope, frozen. Task manager wouldn't force close it. I had to restart computer to get rid of the half loaded autocad. Upon restart Autocad loaded fine, no warning about a missing dwl file. Now my original file that I attached to the forum (minus that screwed up font and some other tweaks) will let me put that block on a palette. I've been messing with this file off and on all day. I have no idea what the solution was or possibly a combo of things I tried or things suggested. Maybe the restart was all it took.

I guess sometimes when tech support says unplug it and plug it back in that is actually the solution. I'm pretty sure no one has ever said that before.

Thanks for all the help. The case is solved, but the why is still a mystery.
