If it's not a way to open a drawing, AutoCAD should block it totally. Or,
it should work correctly. Otherwise it's too confusing.

If you have autocad open at the time, you should be able to double-click the .dst file in explorer and have it open the sheet set in autocad.

No. it won't even I have the AutoCAD open without a drawing open. Then, if I have any drawing open, if I double click the dst file, it will open the sheet set manager. Something must be wrong here.

HI @bwang-tecoustics,

When you have a session of AutoCAD open and you double-click a DST file in Windows Explorer, it should open the Sheet Set Manager. It will not open a single file. The manager, while it could be used to accommodate a single drawing with one or more layouts, it is most typically used to manage multiple (shared) drawing files and associated layouts.

So let's look at it this way, if you have a single drawing in a SheetSet that contains many layouts as part of the imported sheets, how would the manager know which layout you wanted open when you double-click the DST file?

Or if you had multiple drawings with one or more layouts in the set, again, the Sheet Set Manager has no way to identify which of those you want to open when you select the DST file.

Here is an AKN Article that might help you to more fully understand the Sheet Set Manager.

Thanks for the reply. What you said make sense to me. The strange thing to me is, it won't even open the sheet set manager as I expected, when I double click the dst file in the windows exploer. It will only open the AutoCAD main window for me. Does your AutoCAD do the same thing?

HI bwang-tecoustics,

There is a trick here! The Sheet Set Manager won't open unless there is actually a drawing session open. So, when I work on a project that is part of a sheet set, my workflow is like this:

Open the first drawing that I want to edit. When I want to work on the next drawing or drawings  then I double-click on the DST to see my Sheet Set Manager and open the files from there.

I hope this clarifies the issue.

Just before your reply, I made a test on my collegues AutoCAD. He can open the sheet set manager by double click the dst file. He can start the sheet set manager while starting the AutoCAD from windows exploer. So, there is something wrong with my AutoCAD. Anybody knows how to fix it?

Hi bwang-tecoustics,

You are correct! I guess I never had tried that workflow before but double-clicking the dst in Windows Explorer did launch AutoCAD as well as open the sheet set.

Since you are not experiencing the same, lets check the properties of one of your DST files in Windows Explorer.

This is the way mine looks:

Is yours showing the same Opens with information?

Yes. But it was set to open by DWG Trueview this morning for any reason. I changed it back to by AutoCAD but noticed the above issue. However I can't remeber if I had this issue before. Usually I have the dst file pinned on my start window. We recently changed drives (server upgrade) so the pinned file is gone. That's why I tried to open it from the windows explorer this morning.

Good morning bwang-tecoustics,

Is it possible that the link to the DST didn't change when the server got changed? Perhaps it is worth going to the DST location to double-click and if it works, re-pinning it.

Normaly AutoCAD can open the shet set manager when you double click the dst file. My AutoCAD was just srewed up for any reason which I still don't know. I don't need a solution at this time.
