Can't Delete Layer

Hi all

I want to delete a layer.

I have used Qselect to see if there are any entities on that layer. There are none.

I have drawn a line on that layer and used "laydel" to delete that layer. No joy there it wont delete.

How do I get rid of that layer?

The only thing I can think of, is that some block somewhere in the drawing has that layer inside it.

If so how would I find that block. I don't want to have to explode each and every block to see what layers are inside.

There are lots of blocks and that would take ages

What's the name of the layer? If its Defpoints, you are out of luck because that's part of dimensions and is created automatically by the program if it doesn't already exist.

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted 🙂

The issue probably isn't that there's a Block definition containing something on that Layer.  Under normal operation, LAYDEL will still remove the Layer, and redefine such Block(s) to eliminate that something.  So I think something else is going on [see others' Replies].

Thanks Bob

No it is not the "defpoints" layer.

It is another layer I created a while back called "3_Ano_Dims_C"

Thanks Kent

Okay so if laydel does delete the embedded layers in blocks,

I don't know why I can't delete that layer.

It definitely doesn't exist anywhere else that I can see

I did a Qselect for all entities with that layer name both in model space and all layouts and came up with 0

I will just have to live with that layer

okay

The problem must be in the paper space layouts somewhere, even though those

layers don't exist in them.

When I do a copy as to another drawing name as a test and delete both the layouts, I am them able to use the "laydel" function successfully.

However I don't want to be doing that, as that means I have to set the layouts up again,

which I am doing by doing a copy with base point of the paper space layout complete with viewports, from another old drawing to my current drawing

Use laymrg instead of purge.

okay

have solved my own problem.

I have been using delete layer from the layer manager and then trying "laydel"

when that didn't work. I should have used purge instead.

Don't know why I didn't use purge in the first place instead of "laydel" !!

purge works perfectly.
