Switch from your current work space to another, then switch back. Many times this helps for me.

Thanks, but that didn't work.

Any other pointers?

A few thoughts:

Are you trying to add tabs/panels from a partial cui or from the main?

Are you selecting the correct work space in the top left pane before hitting the customize workspace button in the top right?

Make sure the main customization file set to read/write.

Try and  close and restart AutoCAD and try again.

Maybe try to reset your profile.

I think or better hope! you are not familiar enough with Workspace.

Without your cuix files or screenshots of all the panel and tab data, plus informations about your workspace - it is hard to help.

Normally it is easy.
Create panels, create tab, add panels to the tab, incl. Tab to your workspace if the tab is not set to do it self.

How do I set the main customization file to read/write?

In the CUI window, click on the element at the top of the tree, ACAD for basic AutoCAD for example, then on the right side, look for file name. Find that file in windows explorer and right click on it to access it's properties. Under the general tab, make sure Read-Only is unchecked at the bottom.

Okay, wow, that worked.

Obviously, I’m no expert. But I don’t understand how it’s now manipulable
if it’s read only.

This is probably a stupid question, but please indulge my ignorance…

If it's unchecked, which is what I propose, it should be able to be written to.

If you're telling me that it worked while Read-only is checked, then I will say... sure, I knew that would happen...

When I opened the properties, "Read only" was unchecked.

I checked the box, then refreshed my workspace, and then my custom panel/tab showed up!

Honestly, I don't care why it's working, I'm just glad that it is!

Thank you!

Do you mind my asking what version AutoCAD you are using?

I have 2016 with similar behavior (hide/show tabs do not
work inside the CUI but the right click in empty space next
to the ribbon tab does; for the tabs that are listed).

???

I'm on 2015.

It's funny, because I have to fiddle with it now. When I make changes to the ribbon, I try to customize and save my workspace, but then the changes don't show up right away. Being as how the "Read-only" check box is the only variable that has caused any success as yet, I keep switching it back and forth between checked and unchecked, then eventually my changes appear (I've only done this once or twice today though; do have actual work to do).

Me = no kind of ACAD wizard, but I don't know what to make of it.
