Can I use fields to link to a table saved in a separate file?

Can I use fields to link to a table saved in a separate file?

Hi All,

I work for a Landscape Architecture firm whose standard is to xref Details directly onto paper space.

We are hoping to find a method for creating detail call outs that automatically update when the order is changed.

Typically when we start a project we make an excel table file where we list all of the details, the name, and what sheet they are on.

Ex: Drawing name_Details.dwg

Ideally, we would like to use fields to link the detail bubble in one file (Ex: Landscape Plan.dwg) to a data cell in the table file.

This would allow us to update only the table and have all of the call outs update automatically.

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Chelsea

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

You might consider using Sheet Sets and Views to get this to work. Otherwise, there are some plugins in the Autodesk App Store that might facilitate this process.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately views won't work for this office as we insert details directly into paper space.

I'll check out the plugins in the meantime.

Do you know if any of these plugins can specifically address the task?

thanks

HI @Anonymous,

I am afraid that I don't have personal experience with any off the add-ins. It would be a trial-and-error process for me to investigate.
