Can I use Autocad to create assembly drawings?

I am a new Autocad user

I know people use software like Inventor and Solidworks to create assembly drawings. But can Autocad be used to create assembly drawings? I mean creating a drawing for an item that made from a number of components assembled together

Hi and welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

>> I mean creating a drawing for an item that made from a number of components assembled together <<

i understand from your post that you're asking for 3D components .... if that what you're asking for. then YES you can use autocad to make 3d models. i'm also remind that your system description have a proper specification for that.

Thanks for your answer. If I understand you correctly you are confirming that AutoCAD can be used to create 3D assembly drawings.

But you used the word "Model" and this confused me. What does the word "Model" mean in AutoCAD terminology?

The Autocad equivalent of assembly parts would be either xrefs or blocks, but they aren't really the same thing, there will always be something that one can do that the other can't that's why you have different drawing packages/programs

AutoCAD is a software used for 2d (x and y) drafting and documentation and for 3d modeling (x,y and z) and visualization . and since we made shapes with z factor like ( cube,box,sphere,pyramids...etc) this shapes called models. if you have an image that describe your issue it will great to see it to make the issue more clearer .

all the best..
