Can I have associatative objects in Paperspace? similar to dimassoc

Hi,

So I've been tasked with setting up new CAD standards for our company. We are on AutoCAD 2002 without Express tools (I know.... we are living in the dark ages). We are a structural firm and would like to do all annotation in paperspace, for us that's dimensions, section markers, and text markers. We use many different scales so for consistancy reasons paperspace annotations make the most sense.

My issue is when I move model space objects the section marks and text markers in paperspace won't. However, I do have it set up that the dimensions move with the objects they are associated to. I'm curious is there a way to link (associate) objects in paperspace to the objects in model space.

I know there is much debate over annotating in model space vs paper space and each one has it's pros and cons. I'm not looking for a big debate over which is better. For us paperspace annotations makes more sense and I would like to find a way to make this work even if I need to learn how to use AutoLISP.

Hopefully this made sense, we engineers aren't the best with words but any advice is much apprieciated.

Cheers,

Do you use annotative text and dimensions? Then you are probably losing the display scale only.
CHSPACE command does what you want, or are you moving these objects with some other method?

Unfortunately I don't have the CHSPACE command, I believe that is part of the express tools package.  I'm also only on 2002 AutoCAD so I do not have annotative scaling either. My issue comes from the ancient software we are using...... looking like I'll need to learn how to write AutoLISP routines or convince my boss to upgrade our software as both your recommendations would work if we had newer software.

Right now I simply move any annotations (which are we only have in paperspace) manually after making changes to the model. Tedious but only option right now.

Before Annotative objects and dimstyle, I had the same workflow. We used many different scales and thus, for us, paperspace annotations were the way to go within our office. This is how I handled annotations when the modelspace objects had to be moved in a viewport:

1. If you use Dimmreassociate command and reassociate one dimension, the others will snap back in place where they belong, if they were associated to an object to begin with. But things like leaders and text won't.

2. For leaders, text and other non-dimension objects, I would "select all" then move them all at once by using the base point of a leader which was placed at a particular "benchmark" such as a corner or specific line endpoint.

Sorry there is no other automatic way of doing what you are asking.
