I'm converting a PDF to CAD, but the text is turning into polylines instead of Mtext. How can I fix this?

@vishalghuge2500 ,

Try this:

@Valentin_CAD

"Recognize SHX Text" method is not working in my case.

@vishalghuge2500 ,

Try the alternative mentioned on the link:

Also, attach the PDF so everyone on this forum can troubleshoot.

... and if you are on subscription, you can install RASTER DESIGN as an add-on to your AutoCAD, it has a built-in OCR ability https://help.autodesk.com/view/RSTR/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-6791E749-FDE6-4E8E-9DBD-F118A80FCE4A

It's struggling because the polyline text doesn't look like any fonts. It's quite jagged and misaligned. It cant match a font.

If you rotate you plan view it helps. if you create a new UCS 45 degrees rotated and set the plan to that view it can start to recognize the text, but its still not picking up all the characters.

You can try converting it multiple times to get all the digits and then text explode them and then re doing the recognize shx recognize text to get them all into the one combined text, but going through all of that isnt saving you much time. It would likely be quicker just to retype the text.

If you have autocad 2024: make it into a .jpg (screenshot your screen - but make the lines pretty bold and very visible) and use markup import from the collaboration tab in a new drawing. the .jpg will be turned into a trace and when you switch between tracefront and traceback it will try and recognize the items, when you click them you can insert them as mtext/mleader or revision clouds.

I don't guarantee a 100% successrate, but it might help with a few.

A limited version of this is already available in 2023, but the text recognition is new in 2024
