Blocks on Toolpalettes not working.

Hi Folks,

Have recently bought a new laptop and have tried to transfer all my Toolapelettes from the old machine to the new one. But even though I have re-pathed the location of each item in each *.xtp file, the block will not show an icon on the toolpalette nor can I insert it into the drawing.

So now I have to run through the "right click >> select...>> find source file>>ok for each and every item. There are hundreds of them.

I have done the "find/replace" routine on notebook for all the *xtp file but unless I do it manually as described in previous paragraph, it doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Hi,

if you open the properties to repath,

is the path right or old? No typo?

.xtp files are just transfer. The used files are  .atc (after or import).

And there, I do a find&replace

What doesn't work please ? You never say what you tried, @cadffm was asking for more details and providing general guidance.

Did you by chance only do this https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-export-and-...

What are the full file paths your TP blocks are looking for exactly?
And how does that compare to the full File Repath you are doing manually for one of them?
And which of those full paths are listed in the Search Paths list in OPTIONS command's FILES tab?

I tried the repath name in atc files using find/replace in notebook. THAT didn't work.

Checked for typos, but all correct.

I have placed all my palettes in a specific location in my "documents" folder, for ease of access. So I used the file locating path to repath them. So basically, I only had to change one word in the path to point the link in the correct location. Some of the .xtp files picked up the new location, most didn't.

Unfortunately I did not use the export/import facility as I had initially trierd to use MS Onedrive to transfer everythink on my laptop in toto. but it kept mislaying the toolpalette files. So I ultimately had to cancel Onedrive and continue with share files feature.

The paths in the .xtp files are exactly as written when I repath them individually.

Yes the Palette files location are registered in OPTIONS >> FILES.

If you talk about the content in .xtp

that was your turn (you tried a find&replace).

If not all pathes correct, you had a problem with your find&replace.

I miss one more information:

After import o e of the .xtp files (where you had successful f&r):

The file path is correct (insertion tool property Path) and is working or not?

'Documents' is a special animal, but if you used the full path c:\users\.. I expect it should work as it did 1000 times before.

Sorry, without the data, I can't help more.

(For a test, you can copy your .dwg to c:/temp/test or another local folder without special characters

and run a new test with the original .atc files.

This MUST work well.

OPTIONS >> FILES>> Toolpalette path

Abd inside this folder is the catalog .atc file and subfolder /palettes

where your palette .atc are.

And the subfolder Images, with the thumbails.

Thanks for your help. Just a small question: what does a .atc file actually do? I found a whole bunch of them in a folder called "Palettes" and opened a couple, and the paths were completely wrong. So I did a S&R on a couple, but unsure whether I should continue spending a lot of time repalcing the correct path in ALL of them?

In answer to your question, after deleting the .xtp file and doing a S&R on all the block paths and saving the file I then imported the palettebut it STILL doesn't bring in the block. So I selected the item in the ToolPalette, selected properties, and the path is correct but no icon of the block. See 1st attachment!!

Yes, I know, I have always dne my work in a specific company folder which I save into my "Documents" folder. When work is complete, I copy and paste into my company's server. I have been doing this for 3 years as I work remotely so "Documents" is not the problem.

Hi,

>what does a .atc file actually do?

the one "catalog" atc in your toolpalette path, is the index/catalog file.

- What palettes have to load.. and more settings

All .atc in in /palettes subfolder are the palettes themselve! This is where the content of a palette is defined.

This is where the (right) pathes have to be.

>I found a whole bunch of them in a folder called "Palettes" and opened a couple, and the paths were completely wrong.

- That's why you can see the wrong path in your tool-properties. The .atc file is where the tools are defined.

>So I did a S&R on a couple, but unsure whether I should continue spending a lot of time repalcing the correct path in ALL of them?"

-I need just ONE s&r to change all path in all file.

Pimp your skills about Texteditors / search another one who can do a s&r in multiple files. Out there, are a lot of powerful editors & others tools.

- Icon, this is not priority one, but one try:

You can't see the Icon in your palette ? (In your screenshot we can see it)

Perhaps palette and the property dialog use different source (untested) and the icon for palette display is not there or just bad.

Icons are stored Images folder, the other subfolder in your toolpalette path.

OR, your data is completely confused because of many tries and fails (I can't check the whole stuff on your side).

>Yes, I know, I have always dne my work in a specific company folder which I save into my "Documents" folder.

- Bad place, if you don't use the same (windows) UserID or if the location  in your company for this stuff is another.

But if you know how to handle and edit all things, okay.

(You should know it first, then you use, wrong order in your case ;D )

>When work is complete, I copy and paste into my company's server. I have been doing this for 3 years as I work remotely so "Documents" is not the problem.

- Ahh okay. Perfect, until you have to move it to another location.

At THIS moment I would write

What I would recommend (how to "renew" it cleanly once),

but sorry, I don't have time for it now.
