Block attribute randomly changing position

Anonymous
Not applicable

In creating various blocks with attributes (a Line with an Attribute inserted at the midpoint) I noticed that some attributes, after being attached to the block, moved to a completely different position than the one I'd assigned in Attdef; whereas others stayed where I'd put them.

As far as I can tell, there is no difference between those blocks that could explain the displacement. What could have happened?

I've attached an example. The first 3 blocks are normal, the 4th's attribute moved there immediately after being attached, even though it had been under the line's midpoint like the others.

Hi,

I would say that is not a behavior that is commonly happen, at least I have not read about that issue, yet.

So I would first make sure that your AutoCAD has the latest service packs (and your AutoCAD runs in a recommended >>>system environment<<<)

Also maybe good to know: you used multi line attributes. If you need it really for multi line input then ok, if not I would strongly recommend to use the "normal" (single line) attribute definitions.

Hi,

honestly i don't know why this happened. BUT you can fix it by ATTSYNC command.

I have a bunch of blocks with one attribute in it locked when originally placed in the dynamic block.  These blocks do get edited and changed and there is a position parameter with the attribute.  A few of the blocks  will sometimes move the attribute to a location that may be several feet away from where it is supposed to be.  I have tried ATTSYNC and that does not move it back on location.  I am hoping there may be something else that is causing the problem and you might know what it is.  Thank you very much for any help you can give me with this problem.

Hi,

it sounds there is a problem in your block definition OR:

The "link" between your main block and some of them dynamic variants are broken.

Upload a sample file with (only) one "old" wrong block reference and a new one with the same settings.

Mark the one with the problem.

I have attached a couple of dwgs as you requested. I have some notes in
them to explain what I discovered that is even wilder than what I thought.
In the bad dwg if I simply change the scale using the scales list the ID
moves back to the proper location. If I change the scale back the ID moves
out again. In the master dwg with lots of different blocks there were other
blocks that were okay. When I changed the scale as I described and it fixed
those bad blocks there were other blocks in the dwg that now through there
ID to random locations far from where they should be. Other identical
blocks the ID stayed in the proper location.

I am also pasting in another dynamic block problem that is kind of similar.
You don't need to address that problem I just thought it might help to see
how insane the blocks are behaving. For this problem I did try and edit in
the dwg they are in and it did not fix the problem. Thank you a whole bunch
for any help you can give me. If I have to start over I will but I have
already replaced most of the dims in the dwg.

We need just ONE FILE with one working and one problem object.

It doesn't help to have 100 times the same problem and 1000 which are not case related.

But okay...

WHERE you attached the files?

Comes to us, go to the forum you started this thread, login, write your answer and attach your one file there:

Some attributes display in random directions from where they were originally in the block.  Any direction and any distance

.  In my attempts to figure it out I discovered for some blocks if I changed the scale from 1/2" to 3/4" the attributes would go back to their original location and text size would change as expected.  When I changed the scale some blocks that had the attribute in the correct location would not display far from where they should be.  I also checked the attributes scales in the properties.  I noticed some did not have the second scale displayed.  I know on my computer I have it set to add the scale when a dwg scale is changed.  The architect I am helping I am not sure if his system is set that way.  Just letting you know that I think changing scale has something to do with it but still it is a random thing.  My apologies for misunderstanding your directions as I really do appreciate any help that I can get.  Thank you very much.

Yes, I Sometimes use ATTSYNC Command when something like this happens...

I thank you for looking at the problem.  I have tried ATTSYNC multiple times and it did nothing.  The reason I feel that it is tied into the scale and maybe annotative is because different blocks have their attributes move depending on what the scale chosen is.  The default scale is 1/2"=12 and if I change it to 3/8" scale those wayward attributes return to their rightful place.  However; other blocks that had their attributes in the correct location had those attributes move to random locations.  I change the scale back and the attributes corresponding move.  If anyone want to look at this further I can send a dwg with more blocks in it and you could see how changing the scale affects everything.  Thank you again for looking.

Hi @jack_foster

sorry, there is nothing wrong (so far i can see) and so it isn't possible for me to find a reason.

The Position 1 X & Y are correct. WHY the attribut is at this position, i don't know.

Thank you a whole bunch for taking a look at this. I no longer have my
subscription for perpetual license so I don't know how to contact Autodesk
for a possible bug report. Would you happen to know of a way to do such?
Again thanks for trying ot help me, it is very much appreciated.

You can contact Autodesk over Here .

I think this is what a Perpetual License is.... So, I guess you don't have any Term for the Expiration of the License.... And if you are not able to see it, you can contact Autodesk in the above Link...

A perpetual software license is a type of software license that authorizes an individual to use a program indefinitely. Generally, outside of termination, a perpetual software license allows the holder to use a specific version of a given software program continually with payment of a single fee.
