Blipmode in 2020

Is there a way to get blipmode back in 2020?  I know many found it annoying, but I was so used to it I didn't notice, and now it's gone I find I frequently need it - it tells me where I have been, if, say, I'm stretching a series of things. (I'm explaining this for those who will tell me I don't need it and that I should get used to not having it.)

I just can't see the point of removing something that was so easy to switch off for those who did  find it annoying.  (Anyone who can get used to dynmode should easily be able to ignore the blips, if they don't want to switch them off.)

Hi,

it's cool to know that some one need such an old abandoned command . you can reach to this command by :

  • type  REDEFINE in your command line and type Blipmode to get it back .
  • OR ... type .BLIPMODE directly. ( Notice the dot before the command ) .

i believe that those visual references could give some help while working .

Command: REDEFINE
Enter command name: blipmode

Regards,

Thanks to you both - I tried both solutions, and both worked.  Thanks again.

I agree.  I use BLIPMODE all the time.

And yes most of the users do not want them on the screen. But they are not power users.

I load a LISP file automatically with shortcuts that I put together throught out the years and tuning .BLIPMODE is one of them.

Doing a large project with attributes that need to be updated or filled in you lose your place without them.

Thanks for letting me know I am not alone!

JRR.

What does that have to do with using blip mode?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Try the AutoCAD for Mac forum.

Does not work in Windows version either 😞

Command: .BLIPMODE
Unknown command "BLIPMODE". Press F1 for help.

Redefine requires value 0 or 1 or two. Does not accept BLIPMODE

None of the two works in 2023 LT.

As noted in your LT forum post, LT command does not have a REDEFINE command and BLIPMODE command was undefined back in AutoCAD/LT2012 so adding a dot ahead of the command is not going to bring it back.

There is a registry edit you can perform if you are up to it, check your duplicate post for that answer.

Thanks for the effort trying to explain.

I am just simple architectural person not a CAD programmer. I used AutoLisp back in the '90 just a little.

Before around 2020 I was using full AutoCAD so i did not know about changes in LT back in 2012.

All I want is see blips, which is extremely helpful confirmation where my click snapped to.

Without it my productivity dropped dramatically as i have to constantly zoom in-zoom out to ensure i get right snap.

Recently Autocad behaves strange (i work with this software since 1988, DOS versions were best) and now snap always defaults to (prioritizes) perpendicular to endpoint. Even when snapping to endpoint still showing perp icon. Source of so many mistakes and repeated actions.

Very disappointing.

Hi,

@novina

>> All I want is see blips,

You cannot fully bring back classic BLIPMODE in the latest AutoCAD LT versions the way it worked historically. Autodesk removed the feature from the modern graphics engine. >>Click<<

>> and now snap always defaults to (prioritizes) perpendicular to endpoint. /  Even when snapping to endpoint still showing perp icon.

as much as i understand your exact mean:

  • This depends on the running object snaps from OSNAP command. If several running object snaps are turned on, more than one object snap may be eligible at a given location. You can press Tab to cycle through the possibilities before you specify the point.
  • The shapes that appear when using Object Snap (Osnap) in AutoCAD are called AutoSnap markers or glyphs. They are visual cues that show you exactly where your cursor will snap to on an object, ensuring precision in your drawings.

For years, some have been calling for the return of this command, especially the older generation who understand the value of Blipmode. Between supporters and opponents, the truth is that this command was removed from AutoCAD LT.
All the best...

Hi,

It's strange, because i can use _blipmode directly in my AutoCAD LT version. (see video)

@Caderix That's weird if you can use it. I just tried on LT2026 and it doesn't work
