Automatic Print Area Creation

Good day, I have an oddity that I was wondering if it were possible. I was wondering if it were possible for AutoCAD to automatically create named print areas. Let me explain: I have company borders that my company uses, as well as other sheets that we utilize for information. We drop them in from the design center as a dynamic block into the model space, explode the block to have the borders and other pages be separated, and then as needed copy the borders/pages. I wanted to know: 1) If I were to create Print Areas in the dynamic block that we drop in, if we were to use the explode (or burst) command, would the named print areas stay. 2) When we copy the borders and pages for use further in the drawing, Can I make it so that new print areas are created in a sequential manner? Example: I drop in a dynamic block with a border in it into model space, and explode the block to get to the data inside. That border has a named print area of "001". I copy the block still within model space to make a second border. Can a second print area of "002" be automatically created on the new border? 3) Can print areas be linked to geometry, such as a border, in case the geometry moves?

Aren't you using layout tabs?

Sadly, no.  The company I work for doesn't use the layout tabs.  Given that any particular project can have anywhere from qty.6 to 20 8x1/2" x 11" pages, and qty.5-75 (or more) 11" x 17" pages, we just have it all drawn in model space, and have a macro commands to print the correct page size in the correct orientation, to the correct printer (e.g. "P1" prints 8-1/2" x 11" to the paper printer while "P4" does the same but to PDF).

The issue with the macros is that you still have to select 2 points to print.  We have those points well defined for every sheet, but I'm faster at typing, and would love to press (for example) "P1 <enter> T1  <enter>" and have my title sheet printed on paper, then just go down the line "<enter> B1", "<enter> B2", etc.

Editing the macro command as needed to tell it to let me type the print area is a different area, and a moot point if I can't quickly get the print areas set in the first place.

Explore LIMITS command for going old school automate-plotting-from-modelspace like that: then you always PLOT>LIMITS.

Or if all are exceptionally organized and never-ever drop anything outside of your titleblock, PLOT>EXTENTS needs to be your default all the time. Just draw an outer border as part of your titleblock for your print-area margins.

It won't happen automatically, but you can make named Views in Model Space, with the NEWVIEW or -VIEW command.  Then in Plotting, you can choose to Plot a View by name, rather than picking the corners of the plotting area each time.

Wow, plotting from Paper Space was introduced with r11 in 1990. I started with r12 in 1993 but welcomed improved features with every release since then.
