AutoCAD - Version Control

Hi,

I'm wondering if AutoCAD is capable of version control at all?

I would like to use only one file instead of "save as" and end up with hundreds of files...

For example; I'm working on a drawing for 3 months. I would spend an hour a day editing this drawing. Requirements change and I need to roll back the design to a specific point in time, but I only need a few elements, the rest I want to keep.

So far, I have experimented with the 'Compare DWG' feature, which can be invoked from the command panel with -COMPARE /path/to/other. dwg. This shows how the current file differs from the argument to COMPARE.

The program can be invoked from the command line, and its first unnamed argument is the base file to open.

Are there any other version control tools?

Ps: not sure if this post belongs to the Visual LISP board so feel free to move it to where it belongs 🙂

There is quite a new feature (since 2021?) DWG History, see THIS youtube intro.

This is a cool feature! I guess I would need a separate text document so I know which changes I did and which dwg I would need to roll back to / extract information from.

Now, where do I retrieve the pop up from?

Does anyone know how to keep track of version control within AutoCAD?

Assuming that a handful of people are working on the same file. How do we keep track on which changes was done when without physically comparing file after file in dwg history? Does dwg history support comments at all, or could a document be linked to the dwg to keep track of changes?
