AutoCAD - Two-finger move only zoom instead of pan

Hi, I recently swithced from Mac to Win 10, and my old gesture for pan on Mac was simply moving with two fingers (or space + one finger move), however, when switched to Win 10, the same gesture of moving with two fingers does not pan no more, but only zoom when move up/down. In the meantime, pinch and spead two fingers do zooms too. Space + one finger move does NOT pan neither. Frustrated right now because of it! Any solutions are appreciated!

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Please describer your hardware. What kind of track pad is installed? Does the manufacturer provide a specific driver that enables Mac-like gestures?

Thanks for the welcom! I am using the Surface Book 2, and autoCAD 2018 from my student licensing. I am just wondering whether the mac-like pan gesture could be set up in the win 10 version. Thanks for the reply!

Hi @Anonymous,

I do not have access to that hardware but I did a bit of searching and here is what I found on the Touchpad settings and gestures.  It does not look like there is much customization possibility.  I did find this page as well as numerous others that describe customization options of both the tap and gestures.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am checking back to see if my post helped you with your problem or question. Please mark my post as the solution if it resolved the issue. I have continued to look for third party apps that would allow you to customize the touchpad but so far I have not found anything solid. This one might work - let me know.

Thanks a lot for these helps! though these did not help me after all. I think it is the within the settings of AutoCAD to enable my feature. Can't believe nobody transferring from Mac to Win 10 did not mention about this major feature loss!

Works fine for me on my Lenovo touchscreen using two fingers to pan in R2018 in Win10: zoom in is accomplished with a two finger pinch (and whatever you call a reverse pinch to zoom out).

HELP says:
"Pan and Zoom With a Touch Pad
If you use a touch pad, you can use gestures to pan and zoom.
Zoom in. Slide thumb and index finger apart.
Zoom out. Pinch thumb and index finger together.
Pan. Swipe with two fingers in the direction that you want to pan the view."

Do you have the Touch Mode tab in the Ribbon? Is it activated? It needs to be and the button on it triggered.

hi there! I also found out about that Touch Mode thing in the help section. I have attached a screenshot of my ribbon with the Touch Mode in position. However, I am not sure whether my Touch Mode is on or off, when I click on the "Select Mode", it does not change anything. Still, my two-finger swipe up and down do zooms, and pinch do zoom too.

Did you ever find a solution? I am having the same problem now with AutoCAD 2021 on Windows 10. I also was previously using mac and am very accustomed to panning with two finger swipe. Both two finger swipe and two finger pinch are causing zooming in/out.

I think the touch mode path to a solution is not effective because I (not sure about OP) am not using a touch screen device.

Thank you!

We need solution from Autodesk about this major issue.

Windows 10 and Dell XPS here and two finger panning with touchpad is no working, it's zooming in/out instead. Pinching gesture is working though.

Anyone please post solution if you found any.

Thanks.

I have the same issue on MSI Stealth 15M. It's extremely frustrating. Has anyone found a solution?

I haven't. I bought a separate mouse to use and can pan while holding down
the scroller and can zoom while the scroller isn't clicked.

@pendean

System Setup: Lenovo X1 Thinkpad Yoga GEN 6 / Windows 10-64bit: Running AutocadLT-2021.1.1 /  R.154.0.0

My issue similarly to the people who previously mentioned is that the touchpad and the lenovo trackpoint center mouse & associated buttons (i have a middle button, it doesnt work traditionally in this app, like say a mouse click down typically does) do not respond to either 2 finger drag panning. I have tried the hot patch (as this worked previously on my autocad lt for mac, same issue as this one), the mbutton pan command, the hot key combinations, and the select mode toggling. (this appears to be all of the available options i have seen with relevant issues). The same pinch and 2 finger drag commands work on the actual touch screen but the keyboard/touchpad/touchbutton mouse combinations result in the same issue of having the 2 finger action merely zoom in and out. I normally agree that one should use a mouse / or the pan command but realistically that's not the ultimate solution (for me), as i travel and i would rather just have the 2 finger operation for say a plane. Has anyone achieved anything concrete here? Or alternatively, has anyone upgraded to 2022 and had this problem disappear for windows-10/autocad-LT users?  Thanks!

Hi,

Probably 4 years too late but I have had the same issue and just discovered you can type pan into the command box and a hand appears on screen allowing you to pan. Not as convenient but does the job!

January 2023 and still no solution? I'm on AutoCAD 2023 and still having this problem. I'm aware of the workarounds but they are not convenient. Why can't this be implemented in Windows the same way it is implemented on macOS?

@corey.holt
Apple is the only hardware source. Total "quality" control, or at least 100% consistent behavior.
Windows... meh!

Hi there,

I also just witched from Mac to Window Asus laptop and am frustratingly experiencing the same issue.

It is hard to explain how much it is inhibiting the workflow.

Has anyone found a solution in the meantime?

No interest in workarounds or alternatives.

I would just like to be able to solve this issue.
