***autocad shell active***

I am using autocad2012 . when I enter shell command (for 3d solid editing) it shows OS COMMAND. then if I press enter, it opens a window titled ***autocad shell active*** ....... I have no idea what it means ...... how can it be solved?
for information: my OS is --- Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17134.407]

P.S. ---- I do not understand this kind of thing, so a step-by step procedure would be helpful.

In the DOS days, type in "shell" command autocad stops running and from there it can go to printing or explorer.

Are you typing in "shell" or you're using the icon?

I was typing "shell" .....
am I supposed to avoid typing in "shell"? (sorry to bother you, but I'm a
new user and trying to learn AutoCAD)

Yup, stop type in SHELL for 3d hollowing.
