Do you already have a DWS file?
What changed recently with your setup or server or office?

Read this post from Autodesk about the topic in genenral:

Try putting a period and an underscore before the command

example ._STANDARDS

  • The period before the comand will make the command "redefined" for this instance if it has been "undefined" at some point by someone by using the UNDEFINE command.
  • The underscore forces the command to display prompts in english

when i type ._standards this doesn't perform the action i require

what im looking to do is to simply re-name "Layer B" to "Layer A" and have the layer properties changed with out me doing anything when i run check.

so for example  i have a drawing where there are 2 layers

layer a: all lines are dotted, all lines are red

layer b: all lines are white

once i use tool-->cad standards --> configure (which i can't get to work)  to point to the correct dws file then what is supposed to happen when i click the following: tools--> cad standards --> check is the check will look at any object on say "Layer a" and make sure that all lines are dotted and are red

so i could re name Layer b with all the white lines, then once iv changed the layer name to "layer A" all t he layer properties are changed to dotted red lines, once tools--> cad standards --> check has completed

i may make a video explaining what i need if people don't understand what i wrote it seemed complicated to me being a newb

No need to make a video - we understand what you are trying to do. But I'm wanting to know why the command isn't working.

Let me look into it a little more and I will try to help figure it out.

Try the following:

ARX <enter>

LOAD <enter>

then browse the default folder which should be "C:/Program Files/Autodesk/AutoCAD 201X/" and look for the .ARX file named "acstd.arx"

After this file is loaded, the Standards command should work. If you can't find it, you can either reinstall ACAD or find someone with the same ACAD version as you and copy the .arx file into that folder.

This may sound crazy - but can you copy all of the .arx and .dll files files from the person's machine and paste them into your folder? Maybe there is another file that this .arx is depending on.

I was simply looking at the .arx file but it does look like there are other files (.dll files) that are needed.

Sorry for the run-around...
