Autocad saved drawing Issue

mohsin_160

Hello,

I am facing a strange problem. I made a drawing in Autocad. It has some beams and pillars and civil blocks. I saved the drawing and everything is going OK.

The issue is that the next day when I opened the same drawing, the components are misplaced e.g. beams are not where I saved them and/or some of the components are missing (not there where I placed them).

Can anyone guide me what can be the issue?

Regards and Thanks.

Hi @mohsin_160,

I am sorry that you are experiencing this issue. Can you attach a sample drawing that has this problem to a post? I would like to see if I can duplicate this issue. It might be a graphics card issue or a block issue, UCS issue or perhaps some drawing corruption.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Kindly see the attached drawing. This is the drawing (complete work) I saved couple of days back and I took a jpeg output from it. Jpeg is also attached here.

Now when I open the same drawing today; things are not there where i saved them at my work time and it is totally different from what I took the jpeg of.

Kindly take a look and share some possible solutions.

For the system, I am using Lenovo B570 i3 (12GB RAM and 1TB HDD) with built in graphics card of Intel. Screen shot is also attached for your ref.

Kind Regards and Thanks.

Friend, your DWG file's content were deleted: either by mistake (maybe you forgot to save or had them selected and did not notice they disappeared) or these were deliberately removed.

The DWG file contains no history or content that matches the image: there is no way to decipher what happened to the content from this file.

Where is your daily backup from that day?
Did you try and find a matching BAK file to rename?
Did you try and find an autosave file in your WIndows Log-in Temp folder that you can recover?

Hello,

Well this is sure of that it is not deleted. I saved the  drawing as per the img file. After couple of days when I opened the .dwg file things are missing.

I tried the backup file and it is the same thing.

Regards and Thanks.

Sadly, something happened that is now lost to history: your posted DWG file seems intact with no errors or issue that I could examine here.

Yes. the attached screenshot is what I see from your drawing. And I don't find any errors from your drawing file.

I don't find the top panel which showed on your screenshot.

I have tried to rotate the view to see if any view point matches what you showed but only can understand your frustration.

Suggestion:

What if you remove all the misplaced components then copy the right support panel showed on my screenshot to the left?

We don't know what happened to your file: neither do you.

But it's done now, it's gone, and your DWG file offers no way to bring it back.

What miracle are you still seeking my friend?

Hello,

I don't want the drawing back but I want to know why it happened? and how can I avoid this type of errors in the future..

Hi,

sorry to say, but using other DWG-reading products show "modelling error" during opening your dwg.

Seems you need to bring back your BAK file or a file from your backup system.

HI @mohsin_160,

I too am not finding any drawing errors with your file.

Which version of AutoCAD are you using?  I fear that your laptop might be under-powered for 3D work and I am wondering it the Intel Graphics card without DirectX running might also play into some of this.

Did your BAK file look different than the DWG you provided? Are you working with this file on your local C: drive? Are you syncing to a cloud store or something else?

No one knows what actually happened.
No one can guess at how to avoid it.

@Alfred.NESWADBA notes in other software your file is reporting problems: but since your file is small you've probably already recreated the objects in another file, correct?

Hello,

I am using the version AUTOCAD 217, I checked the .BAK file and it has the same issue. Yes I am working it all on C:. I am not syncing it to any cloud stores.

However I also checked the Direct X version on my machine; and the screenshot is attached here.

Hi @mohsin_160,

Please attach a screen capture of your GRAPHICSCONFIG window inside of AutoCAD so I can see if DirectX is being utilized.

Hi,

my opinion: it does not depend on DirectX as you don't have a display issue, you have a defect file. DirectX is not used for saving the file.

But as we see now you are using Intel HD3000, please understand that this (like century old) graphic card is not a graphic card that should be used for CAD, it even does not support the latest DirectX or OpenGL versions/shaders. That does not mean that working with that card created defect files ... but you might run out of memory as the graphic card needs system memory, so AutoCAD (or the operating system/or other applications might crash.

Hi @mohsin_160,

I suspect that your computer is really under-powered for the type of work you are trying to do.  Here are the system requirements for AutoCAD. You will note that DirectX is HIGHLY recommended.

While I didn't see any errors in your file even in other applications, it doesn't mean that the drawing is totally 100%.  I suggest considering a computer upgrade that meets the minimum system requirements and hopefully one that exceeds them.

Unless you can reproduce this behavior on a regular basis it is very difficult to pinpoint what might have happened to your drawing.
