AutoCAD release dates and expected content

As a software engineer, it is very useful to know in advance when to expect the next release of AutoCAD and what changes to expect in that release so I can plan to update any customized code to be compliant.

I have heard that AutoDesk University is a worthwhile activity, but attendance isn't always feasible. Is there an alternative?

Hi Angela,

I hope you are already signed up for ADN (Autodesk Developer Network).  Lots info is available there.

You might consider joining the AutoCAD beta.  Here is the link for general betas:

http://beta.autodesk.com

Also, many of the AU sessions are recorded and posted to the Autodesk University website for folks who can't attend.

Have you done any other research on the release dates? Since 2003, AutoCAD has been released in March. http://www.autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/autocad-release-history.html

As far as new features, getting involved in the Beta program will give you and advantage as there is an NDA and the general public usually finds out about new features shortly before the actual release date.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

I am aware that previously large releases would come out in March. However, with the addition of a subscription model and quarterly updates I was uncertain if the large March release date would continue for non-subscription based customers.

The beta program sounds like the best option. Thank you all for your feedback.
