autocad plugins installation in multiple version of acad and move to new version

Hi, I had some difficulties with the plugin stuff:

  1. when I have multiple acad versions I can't control where the plugin is installed. Sometimes it goes in the old and sometimes in the new version.
  2. isn't there a way to transfer plugin to the new version when updating acad, when migrating previous settings? It's so annoying to reinstall all the plugins every year! Simple arx or autolisp were so much easier.
  3. when I have a plugin installed in the old version, to have it in the new one sometimes I have to uninstall and reinstall it. But the behaviour of diffrent plugins can be very inconsistent.

Thank you

All depending on how the plug-in autorun is organized. If the plugin is made in accordance with the modern requirements of Autodesk, then it is located in the ApplicationPlugins folder and in a subfolder with the bundle extension and contains the PackageContents.xml file. This file lists which versions of AutoCAD are supported and all these versions of AutoCAD will run the plugin themselves. No copying of settings and reinstallation of the plugin is required. When a new version of AutoCAD is released, the developer publishes a new PackageContents.xml file that specifies this new version as well. In this case, you will need to download this new version of the plugin (if you have disabled automatic updates).
However, developers do not often follow new releases and may not adhere to Autodesk standards. In this case, you will have to find out from the developer yourself what and how you need to update.

Thank you. How can I set auto update for plugins? In the Autodesk App Manager I can only see that an update is available, but it sends me to the store to download it.

Honestly, I do not know. My AVC plugins have a separate automatic update system built in because these same plugins work not only in Autodesk products.

In addition, it should be borne in mind that the Autodesk App Store has pre-moderation of all updates, which takes from one month to six months or more. So the store does not have the latest versions of plugins.
BWT: You can try editing the PackageContents.xml file yourself. If you just fix the AutoCAD version then most .Net plugins will run fine on new versions of AutoCAD because the AutoCAD .Net API hasn't changed in a long time. But it won't work with ARX plugins.
