AutoCAD - Overlay procedure with xrefs, working with 3D models which are x-refs and 2D drawings.

I have been working for 15 years with this procedure,  and although some people find I am an absolute Idiot I want to get in contact with people which are highly common with working with 3D models which are on itself Xrefs, and on itself are monitored by 2D drawings. I am calling this the "overlay procedure" I have perfectionized it now to the max.

It is easier to get a 2D drawing Autocad, turn in to a 3D model, make viewports in paperspace and then put a Xref of the 2D drawing on top of it, so monitoring what you are making. This in comparison with Inventor where you have to start all over - both 3D as also 2D in case you want to do it right.

I have found out that when you are searching in Inventor in an IPT which is made by a other person,  and have to change more than 4 parameters, the time you are gaining is almost 0.

Is it so stupid to work like this or is it something good?

Jos

Can anyone help me with this?

I’m having trouble understanding your procedure. Perhaps you can share drawings whee you have done this ? Also what benefits have you experienced with this procedure ? Are the other methods you are aware of that accomplishes similar goals?

Please see topic "throwing up of scales by in place modifying an Xrefed drawing" in april this year.

I have shared a lot of info with cadffm@gmx.de, Sebastian.

This has been a learning curve, but now I am questioning the ability in working so.

thanks for sharing that thread. Though that provides a bit more info as to what you’re doing, you still have not shared answers to my other questions in my reply

I am wondering about the fact that a lot of company's are completely redraw their entire technical data from *.dwg to *.idw just because they think they can gain time in modifying. Their is always a lack of education, so people which are only common with inventor tend to retain their way of working, because for them this is the only way. That is the same with the Autocad users, but I am self thaught individuel which want to explore and try as much as possible.

The level of education is always 10 years behind of the actual state of the software development, so I think.

And I think this development of redrawing is in itself an economical disaster.

I am sure that *.dwg will be the future, also in Inventor, or am I wrong?
