Autocad opens normally but I can't draw or interact with drawings

I am running AutoCAD 2013, straight out of the box, network license.

AutoCAD was working this morning.

I tried to open a vendor file, "drawing file is not valid"

Here's the part that's hard to explain, so please bear with me.

Autocad opens. Ribbon is up, model space is there, properties window on the left, all looks normal.

I can select ribbon buttons. I can select property items. I can even select those little buttons on the bottom. I can open other drawings.I can switch to paper space using the bottom right button. (Not the tab)

BUT

nothing in the drawing area is accessible. If I click line or circle (or anything else) The command bar shows that the command has been engaged, but when I am in the drawing area the cursor is still the windows arrow, not the ACAD crosshair.

I can click the command bar, but nothing shows up when I type. It's almost as if the drawing area is a screen shot, not the program.

Rebooting helped once, but no longer.

Anyone got anything?

Hi,

it is unusual that opening a drawing (even if it's defect) crashes AutoCAD in a way that it is defect afterwards (besides of you might have opened a dwg from a zip containing a virus).

What you might try is to reset your AutoCAD profile as described >>>here<<<.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Can you attach this vendor file so I can take a look? I am assuming from your description of the problem that it is only happening on the one file.

First of all, thank you for reaching out. Just after I posted I was called out of the country and am now catching up to the world.

The issue turned out to be a problem with the 3d Connexion driver. Should have figured that it was something other than ACAD. The thing is - it only was happening in ACAD - until I opened a PDF. Same thing, except the PDF was on a VERY slow scroll. Didn't notice until I left the desk for a few minutes with the PDF open.

So, disabled the 3D mouse, everything is back to normal.

Cheers!

John
