AutoCAD - Layer Filter and State

Hello everyone,

Can someone give me practical guidance on:

how to adjust (and stays fixated) the Layer States in order ONLY the layers named "FIRST" be visible (in model and layout space independently), and at the same time layer state where ONLY layers named "SECOND" be visible (in model and layout space independently), so I can switch between two (or more) layer states in real time.

See attached to get what you want in paperspace (viewport layer overrides).

To get around the limitation of what you see in modelspace, you have to work through each viewport in each layout instead: VPMAX is a great option to consider in that case.

OR... "FIRST" layers content need to be far away from "SECOND" layers content in modelspace, your paperspace viewports corrected accordingly, that you can use VIEW command to jump between FISRT and SECOND in modelspace, and your layouts are independent too.

As I understand, changing layers states works ONLY in model space and to change visible layers in layout space is done ONLY via Viewport Overrides?

Btw. the aim is to have multiple layers at the same position, one ontop of each other.

You have to be inside a viewport in your layout to do what you want, like this tip (I believe is what you seek?) https://cadtips.cadalyst.com/layer-states/use-layer-states-viewports
This is a good overview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TyttfBD55Q

it didn't solve. My problem is:

1. When layer state is chosen inside a specific layout from the drop down menu, the same layer state is instantly applied to the rest of the layouts.

2. When changes are made in one layers state (freeze certain layers), the same changes are applied to the rest of the layer states - the purpose of layer states becomes useless.

What am I doing wrong? Any instructunal tutorial regarding my problem?

1. that's how LAYERSTATES work.
2. See above.

You simply are not aware that viewports are just real-time windows into modelspace, they are never independent from or separated from modelspace.

Simply put: MODELSPACE controls everything you see in all of your viewports in all of your layouts at the very same time.

Like my example in my first reply to you, you can only control what each viewport shows you with layer overrides for each viewport, BUT all layers need to be thawed/on in modelspace. Here is a quick video tutorial that should help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkQTiRYEjQA
