AutoCad keeps crashing after loading a file.

I do IT work and have never used autoCAD but one of our employees is using it quite extensively for a while. He brought it to me and it will load a file about 19MB in size and open it. You can zoom in and out move around the drawing but once you click on any of the buttons at the top (ex. Home button or even the help button) then it will crash. I have done a repair, a rebuild and uninstalled and reinstalled. I can get it to work once if I reload all default settings from outside the program it will open a new file and work, but as soon as I load a file or close it and open up a blank drawing it will crash when pressing any of the buttons.

Im lost here im guessing it is a config file or a script that keeps reloading itself.

Is the problem just with this one single file? Or did you test with other 19mb files and it did the same?

I have tested it with multiple files big and small and it will crash with a new file also. I just reset the configuration and it loaded CAD with the blank project. I I could navigate around the settings just fine then left it sitting for about 5 min came back and hit the home button and it crashed. So it is not the CAD file themselves but the program that is causing the crash

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you test to see if it behaves properly by having the user turn off Hardware Acceleration in GRPAHICSCONFIG?

If that works, I suggest finding a newer graphics card driver. Here is one that might be worth trying.

The laptop was working great for the past few months same config the only thing that i have found different is one of the other tech said they updated the bluetooth driver a few weeks ago im not sure how that could crash CAD.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you attach one of your files for me to try?

Also, I suggest you perform a diagnostic startup to see if turning off everything else fixes the problem. If it does then we can try to isolate which application is conflicting.

I probably will not be able to upload the CAD Drawings as they are probably not for public release (Not sure they are not my drawings) but I highly doubt it is the drawings as they work on everyone else in the company and I can open a blank project and It will still crash.

Steps for crash.

1. Open up AutoCad into a blank project.

2. I can zoom around and move around the blank project.

3. As soon as I click any button in the toolbar it crashes.

4. (Log it is storing error codes : Fatal Error Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception d0eea6fdh)

5. restore AutoCad settings to default

6. It automatically loads into the blank project.

7. I can move around the toolbar menus for a period of time, maybe 5-10 min then it will crash when pressing a button after the 5-10min

8. I can load in a drawing from the blank project and it will crash as soon as I hit a button.

I was not able to start autocad in safe mode it would show the loading screen then close and nothing would happen. Im guessing it disabled the Nivida GPU and the builtin didnt have enough RAM to load.

I disabled about 1/2 of the services manually and now I can load in the large 19MB file and I can get about 5 min of operation moving around menus interacting with the drawing before it will crash. So it is a start

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you please try a Reset Settings to Default for your AutoCAD? I would like to see if that allows AutoCAD to  behave better.

It does sound though as if this could be part of your system and other applications not leaving sufficient resources. A diagnostic Startup with everything turned off would be a good check.

When the application crashes doe it allow you to send in a Crash Report? If so, please send me the number or the email it would get submitted by send via PM)

The reset settings to default is the only way I could get it to work before I removed 1/2 of the startup services.

But even with reseting the settings to default it was only a temporary fix as it would crash about 5-10min later.

Now with 1/2 of the services disabled it will load a file an you can interact with it for about 5-10min then it will crash so we are going in the right direction.

The person took their laptop with them so i will not have access to it for the next few days but I will send you the crash report information when I get my hands on it again.

Thanks for the help.

We have two Windows 10 laptops running 2012 LT that have recently been experiencing the exact same issue. When we reset the settings AutoCAD will open and work but after some time it will crash again.

I've attached the logfiles from a crash from today. Hoping someone may be able to help with this.

When obtaining the logfiles from the Windows temp folder, I noticed there was also a Crypto logfile from around the same time as the autoCAD logfiles which when you open says:

2017/07/28 16:53:41 (INFO) Crypt: Crypto object is instantiated
2017/07/28 16:53:41 (INFO) Crypt: Initialized

Not sure if this is related.

Your version of AutoCAD/LT2012 is not supported in Win10 as explained here http://autode.sk/1IY4C2X
What that means is the following: if it used to work and now does not, or if you are trying to install it but you cannot get it to install, or any other related issue that involves your older AutoCAD/LT version and Windows10, Autodesk will in no way shape or form ever get involved in finding out why and will never plan on issuing any fixes.

This was recently posted, it may shed some light on your issue https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk-products-not-wo...

For most users these free tips help a lot http://www.howtogeek.com/228689/how-to-make-old-programs-work-on-windows-10/

For others they roll back to an older Windows OS and hang on tight to it for life.

For others still they purchase a fix from these folks http://www.longbowsoftware.com

As far as Autodesk is concerned, you will need to subscribe to a newer version of LT.

Hope these help.

Sorry if this is years late

But I'm having a similar issue of not being able to import photos from my samsung s7 tablet gallery. It would say "Files Keep Stopping".

I went to my gallery and clicked on the image. I shared the image to Autodesk and the image automatically copied itself to the layer.

Hopefully sharing the image to Autodesk rather than failing to upload directly from the app would work.
