AUTOCAD IS THE WORST PROGRAM FOR ARCHITECTURE

FROM EVERY PROBLEM AND CONFIGURATION ISSUE THAT APPEARS FROM NOWHERE, THROUGH THE TIME LOST SEARCHING FOR THE CAUSE/SOLUTION, AND THE ACTUAL SOLUTION, AUTOCAD WINS IN THE LESS USER FRIENDLY AND MORE PROBLEMATIC PROGRAM OF ALL TIMES CATERORY.

I appreciate the response pendean, but a simple 3d rotate view in autocad should work - regardless of what addon (in this case civil3d) is attached to it, and this is what I mean autocad being antiquated. C3D is a fantastic set of tools, but it's constantly let down by the corpse it's attached to.

No issues for anybody doing that in our offices, all 2023 users with a few 2024 users and some 2022 hold-outs. What have to asked-for-help about and tried to fix it so far and where? I can't tell from your posting history in these forums other than rants (which is fine once or twice but...).

Yes, AutoCAD appears to be quite difficult and frustrating.  After 10 or 15 years, you will be able to solve everything necessary to get the job done.  And or, come up with a work around.

Couldn't agree more! We are living in a digital age and it's archaic, mouse functionality minimal LOL but only a choice of a cluttered toolbar or commands. As a new user it's just clunky and pointless and undefined. It's like some old MS-DOS 80's style system....using Spacebar like LOL whaaaat

I agree with everything you said about Autocad.  I have been using it for 40 years, not a joke.  I was 18, now 58.  Autocad has always randomly crashed.  The hatching was broken sometime before 2000.  Today I can't even draw a sing steel beam correctly.  Autocad is stuck in "inputscale=25.4", a metric error.  I am inside a blank english template with all 1000 setting checked.  Autocad just doesn't work.

All true.  The last stable version of Autocad I used was version 14.  Autocad lite was very stable in 2024.  All the rest is poorly written old software that they added subroutines to.  The global program structure of Autocad IS THE problem.  Specifically, I believe they have some "pointer to a pointer" variable errors buried in there somewhere.  The poor memory handling errors is windows versus graphics card drivers.  But still autocad's fault because they could write drivers if they wanted to.

Definitely a setting issue, not an AutoCAD issue.

Users have full control with units with just 3 commands, -DWGUNITS, _MEASUREMENT, _MEASUREINIT + using a template and 2 units settings (for insertion) within _OPTIONS.

Otherwise no one would be able using a metric environment 😉

In the meantime I can open dwg-files with hundreds of MB (e.g. full with meshes, or Civil 3D surfaces), using the correct visual style (or even better in Civil 3D 2026 the new introduced Model Viewer) I can orbit most complex geometry without any interrupt.

I do agree that (I assume) a lot of code inside the AutoCAD kernel seems old and could be rewritten. But writing drivers for graphic cards is definitely the wrong way, using great graphic interfaces like OpenGL and/or DirectX gives much more flexibility for both, Autodesk as well as the vendors of graphic cards.
