AutoCAD is crashing on shortcut numbers

In my current job I have to use both AutoCAD and MicroStation, and as you may know MicroStation shortcuts are mostly by combination of numbers and letters. And my problem with AutoCAD is when I am switching between these two application and typing shortcut numbers mistakenly it crashes and it took at least 30 min to work again. is there anyway to stop AutoCAD from thinking what those numbers are?

like number 32 in MicroStation means move, but in AutoCAD it crashes even before hitting enter.

So you just type any number and autocad crashes? Definitely shouldn't do that. Try running repair on it. Sounds like a bad install.

Well, it is not just on my desktop, we are more than 20 people and it happens on every single station. I tried to delay the command suggestion to avoid that but it is still happening.

do 'AI_EDITCUSTFILE' at command prompt.

this will open 'acad.pgp' (the alias file).

go to the end (or near the mv alias) and add a new line :

32, *move

save the file and do 'reinit' in autocad, check 'pgp file' only and accept.

type 32 and a space at command prompt !

I don't have Microstation: jumping between AutoCAD 2019-2018-2017 with that
32, *move
In each's PGP file does not crash any of the three programs on my screen when I type 32 the hit <enter> or <spacebar> to activate MOVE command..

Win10Pro here if that makes any difference.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I have both applications installed and i am not able to reproduce this behavior.  Do you have any add-ins installed on either app?

Can you make a Screencast to show me how this is behaving?

here the screen shot from MicroStation, inside this application most of modify tools are available through shortcut numbers instead of letters. like 32 for move that I mentioned. when enter 3 then the drop down list will open with sub commands, which 2 is for move. so combination of 3 and two would run move command and so on. see attached picture

I am new to here but not to AutoCAD, I am CAD user from version R14. But you mentioned good point. we have specific  interface designed per each of our clients which include tool pallets, print setup, pen and color table, bock library and UI itself. it can be the reason for this behavior.

In general I am not getting any error when it happens, only AutoCAD is not responding for 20-30 min and then it back on. during this time my CPU usage goes up nearly to 90%.

Hi @Anonymous,

Which specific version of AutoCAD are you using and is fully patched/updated from your Autodesk Desktop App or form the account page?

If you are not yet on AutoCAD 2019, it might be worth downloading a trial to see if the problem persists.

Right now I am using AutoCAD 2017, (product Version: N.402.0.0 AutoCAD 2017. 1.2 update), and since I am a part of big  organization I am sure they are all licensed AutoCAD.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you make Screencast that shows this behavior? I am trying to replicate this on my side and I have not been successful.  I would like to see the way you are switching apps and using the shortcuts.

So sorry for super late reply,  It seems that the problem is not happening any more on any of our user stations.
