AutoCAD hangs after opening .DWG file, running windows 10.

I have had problems with AutoCAD running on my PC ever since I upgraded to windows 10. I have got a .DWG file to work once but every other time I try to open a .DWG file it loads the file and immediately freezes. Here are a few things I have done:

-I have done a reinstall of AutoCAD 2015 with all of its updates.

-Task Manager doesnt show (not responding).

-I have checked to see if there is another window behind the program awaiting a response. there is none.

-I have tried a handfull of different .DWG files, all have the same result.

-I have updated my VGA (which is a GTX 970).

-I have also installed SP1 and SP2. Nothing changed.

I have tried just opening the program with no file loaded and most of the interface doesnt respond to my mouse clicks including the top ribbon (home, save, etc), open file, getting started, recent documents and connect. The only things that work are the navigation tabs to go to the learn window and back. Also, I have been using Revit 2015 and have had 0 problems with that program through all of this.

It might be too much info but I rather get across all the info that might be useful to quickly get this fixed. I am at a lost with this one. I have pictures of the hanged progam and my computer specs. Any help will be mach appreciated. Thanks

Revit is not the same as Autocad

2015 Autocad and Win10, if it doesn't work right, use previous Win Version, simple as that.

So this is a bread-and-butter machine for your business and you put Win10 on it for what reason...? Or did you need a day off from work and billing?

Roll back from Win10 if you are on an old PC that had another Windows version on it: you don't really need Win10 yet with old 2015 software from Autodesk as I suspect once you find your printers and plotters and other things broken after the 30-day grace period Win10 offers for a roll back.

Modify your startup icon and try the /nohardware switch.
If that does not work, try the /safemode switch next.

No guarantees, but it's worth a try.

I appreciate your quick response. Yes I am even more aware now that Revit is not AutoCAD. I was just pointing out that info as well hoping it would be of good use. I rarely use AutoCAD so I am most likely going to use my laptop for AutoCAD projects until there is a fix for this for windows 10. Thanks.

I appreciate your response. I only upgraded to win 10 after I tested that Revit (the main program I use) worked great on my laptop after upgrading it to win 10. The fact that windows nudged me everyday to upgrade for 6 months and a few other programs as well, are some reasons for me of upgrading to win 10. I didn't know it was a terrible move to make.

I still don't comprehend why AutoCAD won't run on win 10. Are there plans to make this compatible? Or will I be stuck in win 7?

I will look at the link and see if there are any fixes in there I can use. Thanks

It will, or it's supported I should say.  Lot's of people are running AutoCAD versions on Win 10 successfully.

Personally, if all other things were equal, I'd stick with Win 7. If you have a compelling reason to move to Win 10 for some other app, then that's one thing, but Win 7 is rock solid so I look at it like, why change?

Move away from R2015 (and even wait for R2017) and you'll find Win10 works fine: that was my point.

Old software runs best with old operating systems: you want a shiny new OS then purchase a shine new PC/Laptop and shiny new software that are version-compatible with the new OS (plus do the same with all your other software and hardware needs).

Just a heads up: most of us responding are CAD Managers and System/network Admin folks, our advise is biased towards keeping the business and staff moving productively and not stopping for a shiny new free OS as in your experiment 🙂
