AutoCAD Function keys not working properly

Anonymous

Whenever I try pressing any function key e.g. F7 or F8to toggle grid or orthosnap it turns off the other function active and turns on only one at a time. I am also having this problem using mouse. It takes 3 clicks to toggle some operation.

Hi,

general questions:

  • which version of AutoCAD (please show screenshot of command _ABOUT)
  • which operating system?

>> it turns off the other function

Can you please let us know which "other function" is disabled?

Does the command line report anything when you press <F7> or <F8>?

Could you try to change your setting for TEMPOVERRIDES ... anything better then?

Other functions may refer to any which can be toggled by the function keys. Like grid or isometric switches get turned off if I try to toggle Ortho view.

Yes, the command line displays messages such as "Ortho off", "Grid on", en example when I try to switch on grid using F7 function. Yes, I need to press key 2 times to toggle.

I am just a student and recently learnt to work with AutoCAD so I'm not aware about TEMPOVERRIDES, I would be grateful to you if you could help me with this.

I'm not sure to understand everything here. Are you saying that you press <F8> ==> the command-line shows "Ortho off" but instead grid is turned off?

You always have the possibility to press <F1> and then enter the command in the search field.

Other way which works in most cases, whenever you get a command or system variable presented: enter the command into the command-line, press <ENTER> and then <F1>.

I mean to say suppose I want to turn on Ortho and Grid is on, if I press F8, first it will turn off Grid and on pressing second time it will turn Ortho on. As a result I cannot use multiple functions like Grid and Ortho at the same time.

Similarly it I am working in isometric plane and press F5 to toggle axes, it will first turn Ortho off (if it is on) and second time it will toggle axes. This is affecting with my working in AutoCAD.

Hi,

can you reproduce that with every click or does that happens only sometimes?

My guess is that there are special keyboard drivers installed (e.g. for keyboard with special keys) or tools like for creating screenshots, some sound- or videoplayers or something like that.

I would start to connect a (wire) keyboard with just standard keys and see if that changes something.

I would also look into task-manager and to auto-start what is started which is not (for AutoCAD) needed.

Hi,

I own a laptop so there is no issue with special keyboard or driver. Also I have tried connecting to external keyboard and still not able to resolve the issue.

Hi,

Every laptop has special functions on the keyboard like brightness up/down, speaker volume up/down ...

One question is open: does this happen every time you press <F8> that grid is turned off? And when that happens does the command line also show <Grid off>?

At least the chance to look into Windows Autostart and taskmanager could help to find what's running which might capture these keys.

Hi,

you might also try to create a new Windows user on your laptop, login with that user account and see if the same happens then again.
