AutoCAD freezes when creating pline

C3D 2016/CAD 2016 has serious lag when I'm trying to create a polyline within a particular dwg. This dwg contains basic CAD entities with no Civil objects. I've turned Hardware Acceleration on/off and changed my DYNMODE to 0 and nothing seems to help. I've audited the dwg, purged, -purged and nothing.

I do not have my CPU credentials handy but it's a brand new machine with more than plenty RAM and video card, running Win7 64 bit and I have all updates, patches and object enablers installed.

Please advise

Hi monetsnyder,

Welcome to Autodesk Answer days.

I assume we have that behavior also with new empty DWG created from template.

In that case I suggest first checking the driver of the graphical card (certified driver) on our WEB page.
To figure out what we have on the new PC just type 3Dconfig in command line and click button TUNER LOG.

It is also possible to look in Operating System for the details.

Another suggestion will be to turn of Hardware Acceleration, ALL of Win 7's bells and whistles and the AERO Theme.

Regards

Brigitte

Thank you for your reply.

I was actually signed in under her account but it's really me asking the question. I have attached my tuner log and looked at the webpage you linked and my graphics card passed. This computer more than exceeds the minimum requirements for IDSP 2016. I do NOT get this issue when starting a brand new dwg nor do I get this issue in every dwg. It is dwg specific. This problem only occurs when invoking line/pline commands only, no other commands create this issue.

This issue still occurs whether hardware acelleration is on and off. Also, I would prefer not to have to change any Windows settings. Any other ideas?

Thanks for your time and assistance!

Alex

Hi Alex,

perfect, you already narrow it down to the DWG, can you please send me DWG to perform further tests?

too funny.  I once had a similar issue, nothing in the dwg....NOTHING....and the dwg was 53mb.......BREP was my answer.

also offering that when I had the exact problem, it was when I was working with sections form a large model and encountered massive amounts of PERPENDICULAR points which over loaded cad.  so running osnap went OFF in that instance.

does your autosnap box go nuts running furiously back and forth from different snaps.   MOre than usual?

just offering.

Alex, I couldnt help myself, check your line elevations along the easement on the left side.

there are a number of lines/curves/arcs that are way up in the z axis.

No, the osnaps don't go crazy cause the drawing gets so laggy that I can't click on anything even if I wanted to.

oh yeah, I'm not sure who drew them that way or why. They brought me in to create an alignment and create a profile for the storm (in red). I noticed the problem originally because I was trying to draw a feature line over the storm and I couldn't draw anything, not a line or polyline either.

Hi Alex,

Thank you for the DWG and sorry I perform some test but it is not reproducible with C3D in my environment. Is there any application on Top?

Do we have the slow performance before creating the first PL point or with the second and is it the same with normal Line (is it slow before or after a click)?
Can you please disable all O-Snaps and transparency for test?

It could be helpful to see screencast video.

Brigitte

Hello Brigitte,

No, there are no other applications running with AutoCAD. It happens immediately after typing in pline or line before I can select the first point. I noticed yesterday also it also happens when I try to rotate something, I can select the object but then it lags when I attempt to select the base point.

I have also copy clipped everything out of this dwg and pasted it in a brand new dwg and It's just a tiny bit slow when selecting the first point of the pline but I can select it, then every point after is seamless. No issues whoatsoever after the first point.
