AutoCAD Drawing Template - What is proxy graphics information?

Hi everyone, 

Sometimes when I open drawing templates for assignments, I receive a message from AutoCAD about proxy graphics. The window asks about proxy information, whether to not show proxy graphics, show proxy graphics, or proxy bounding box. Usually, proxy information options do not impact the past drawing templates I've worked on.

What does this mean and how does this affect any drawings at all on AutoCAD?
